Just tell him.
Tell him that you really want to have a romantic night with lots of surprises. See what he can do. If he does a good job with it, let him know that you loved it - talk about it a lot and how great it was. If he tries and doesn't do such a good job, you should help him out a little next time. Tell him exactly what you think is romantic. You can watch a chick flick with him and say "you should do that for me" or something a little more subtle. If he picks up on the fact that you'll be all over him if he does these things, then he'll be doing them more often. You just have to give guys a little push, sometimes they forget how important stuff like this is to some girls.

This isn't going to give you a magical answer, but I'm going to give you my story.
My fiance is the least romantic person I have ever known. The most I get is a "love you" text every other day. But he loves me more than I could ask for. He doesn't see the flowers and gifts important. But he makes sure that the bills are paid, my car is running, and the chores are done. He takes care of me, litteraly. He has no problem doing my laundry or doing the dishes. Fact is, I rarely do either (not that I don't do my part.) He's not a drunk, he doesn't smoke. Can't stand to be in a bar unless I want to go see a band. He would never cheat on me. He will never stop loving me.
Can I do without the flowers? Yes, I can.

I dont think you should just drop hints and if he is such a great guy he will react well if you just tell him how you feel. Sometimes guyz dont want 2 seem all "mushy" instead of "manly". Start with all the positives in the relationship and then ask what he would change if anything........and this is your way in to telling him

Tell him. Guys don't get subtlety. If there are certain romantic needs you have (i.e. being told often that you are loved, special dates once in a while, etc), let him know. Don't make him guess what will fulfill your needs.
