I'm moving to Lewisville at the first of the year. I bought a '97 Explorer at the end of Nov. and was told that the Catalytic Converter might need replaced. The real question is: If I fail the emissions test the first time do I have to pay for the full inspection price the next time or just the emissions test? Assuming all else passes.

no. if you have the vehicle inspected, look at the bottom of the state printout the station gives you. it tells you the number of days you have for a reinspection. if you have the vehicle fixed within the alloted days, you only have to pay for the sticker itself. if you go over the time limit, thats when you have to pay for the whole inspection again.

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.

Only deal with a smog shop that will pre-pass it before they hook up to the government system. If it won't pass you may have to pay for the service but not the certificate. Plus you wont have to deal with being in the system as a gross polluter 1ST time around. the shops usually offer a discount next time you come back.

properly maintained autos often pass until there's a concern with emissions including a bad catalytic converter, the main issues they seem at in inspection are the windshield(for cracks or chips) all the lighting fixtures fixtures, the tires, the breaks, the horn, mirrors and physique.

you don't have to pay for reinspection as long as you correct the problem that caused your vehicle to fail in the first place, and you take it back to the same location within 15 days.
