Which is more important, people wanting to be righteous in their own eyes or people being humble enough to accept the truth of the teachings of the Church that Jesus (God in the flesh) founded?

15: "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
16: But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses.
17: If he refuses to listen to them, TELL IT TO THE CHURCH; and if he refuses to listen even to THE CHURCH, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

I so totally agree with you...the most self-righteous people aren't the "goody-goody" Christians, but the one's who think they're perfect without God.

I don't need a church to tell me the difference between right and wrong. When I do something wrong, I know it and feel guilty - usually enough to rectify the situation, which is all the "absolution" I need. When I do wrong I am not "righteous in my own eyes." I don't need or want anyone between me and Deity.

That doesn't mean being a church member can't be useful for other things, of course.

Your question is invalid, because it assumes that the teachings of the church are correct. Try again, and ask a question that is real rather than slanted to get you the answers you want.

Self-pride causes self-righteousness.
Pride can be a hard pill to swallow> to face and accept the truth about one's self, that there's something bad-wrong-sinful within one's self.
Bad, wrong, sin is> ugliness, and one's own self doesn't want to see, think or feel that there's anything ugly about their self.
But, the truth really can make them free> free from sin, and it feels absolutely heavenly to be free from sins, amen.
My best friend was was offended by a member of the church, went and talked to the member about it, but the member rejected the truth; and rejecting truth is> rejecting Jesus, because He said> (John 14:6) He is the way, the "truth" and the life.
Thanks for sharing the truth, about what my friend needs to do, by sharing the scripture verse (Matthew 18)> letting them be as an heathen (those who do not acknowledge-accept God, who is Truth) and a publican (those whose cares are> of the world, instead of loving God and truth).

yes a man thinks his way is right that that is the way that leads to deaths in the eyes of our Lord none is righteous no not one we have all fallen short of the Glory of God for this reason God sent his son into the earth to pay the price for our sin John 3:16 for God so Loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have ever lasting life. Love is the way God loves the world we should love God thank you goodnight

The reason I do not want a church telling me what is right or wrong is because they have no more authority to do so. There is no proof that claims made by any church are true. People reject churches, for the most part, because they reject the claim of the church to make such statements, not because they view themselves as "more righteous" than the church.

There will come a time when your questions can no longer be answered by your church. All they can say is "only God knows", "just have faith" or that their answers no longer sounds like coming from God per se but their own speculations. There will come a time also when you have more answers than the people who run the church. When that time comes, it's time for you to be on your own to search the truth using your books as your spiritual guides, consider other books as well.

This reminds me of a quote I heard a famous actor say to a reporter when asked if he preferred playing good or bad guys. He said makes no difference all think they are righteous in their own eyes. Too bad I can't remember who said this.

Anyone who thinks they are righteous has a very definite problem. We are all sinners and being human we will always be sinners. There was only one without sin. Yes, I need church and I need God's Holy Bible to learn from and try and follow. All we can do is keep trying not to sin. God know our hearts and He knows if we really try or if we are hypocrites.

AND God told Abraham to take his son to the mountain to kill him and then said,"'Psych' just testing ya dude!" I decided at a young age to not be a part of any organization that thinks that this is acceptable behavior. MY God wouldn't have done that. Merry Christmas!

Do I have a rafter in my eye?

You're driving to an important meeting and you finally see a parking space. You get there and a kid tells you you can't park there. You shooo him away and he tells you again you can't park there. He starting to get in your nerves and he point to a sign saying towaway zone, no parking. The kid doesn't seem as being righteous, he was just pointing the law and the truth that you seek.
