Can't ya see the look on the kids faces when they open this one! : (

I don't think it's arrogant. I don't believe they are trying to be offensive. Many Christians honestly believe that they are charged by their God to spread his gospel. They see the internet as a great way to reach many more people than they could otherwise. I just smile sweetly, give my differing opinion, and chalk it up to an opportunity to learn and teach. I love when they come by my house on Sundays. I'll debate with them all day. They usually leave in one of two moods, either very frustrated and thinking I'm a heathen (which, according to some definitions, I am!) or thinking. If I can make one person think and make an educated, considered decision, then I'm happy. If someone chooses Christianity because that's what they've always known or because they are willing to be spoon fed the Bible, I feel almost obligated to "set them free." But if a person chooses Christianity because they have studied it, looked at historical (not just biblical) references, then decide on it, I'm satisfied and respect the person's decision. I'll have no problem with them proclaiming their gospel as long as they realize and understand my right to do (or not do) the same. :)

I really think that you are being unfair with your presumption that if you see scripture, it is displayed in an attempt to be arrogant.

I believe that some do those things, but to think that we all do it out of arrogance is not correct, in my opinion.

What a lot of Christians do is attempt to show scriptures without explaining how to interpret them. Also, the truth in the scriptures is only geiven to those that gives the wisdom to. I know that sounds arrogant, but how else to explain what it is that is really going on? Yes, God does not include everyone in His kingdom, neither does He give to each man the ability to understand.

So I just thought that I would clear that up a little.

Mudcat, You obviously don't know the definition of arrogant; or very much about Christianity.

Christians post scripture passages because to them the Bible is the true revealed word of God, they have accepted it by faith and it is an authoritative source in Christian theology.

People like you don't accept the Bible as an authoritative document and therefore can't understand the importance Christians place on the scriptures. In other words you don't share thier faith. Arrogance has nothing to do with it.

Maybe it isn't arrogance as much as bible study limits your view of the world, and the only proof they can offer for the "accuracy" of the bible is the bible itself. No other literature or history exists to support any of the events of the bible; as a stand-alone document it leaves a lot to be desired. I'd feel better about the bible-thumpers if they could come up with documentation from the Romans or Egyptians which supports their stories.

You must realize that for people of faith, they recognize that the only thing they realy can trust is scripture. So, when they quote the Bible, they feel that they are quoting pure truth. Don't pass the scripture over, read it. You may learn something. Better yet, look it up in the Bible and read the whole chapter to fully understand it.

It only passes as knowledge to other Christians, not the rest of the world. They apparently don't realize that.

I think one day they'll go back to just killing everyone who isn't Christian instead of trying (in vain), like they are now, to convert people with just words.

No more arrogant than people like you who expect others to accept what you're saying as fact. I'll believe the Bible over some "philosopher's" or "intellectuals" teachings any day. You say the Bible was written by man...true, but let's see...the last time I checked, all books were written by man. So your argument can be thrown right back at you. The words of the Bible were inspired by God...and I'd much rather believe God than some jerk on an ego trip.

Arrogant? No

That (copy and paste quoting) is a symptom of an immature mind and I don't mean this in a condescending way (since we all have immature minds to some degree).

An 'immature mind' in this aspect is a mind that can only tell you something they have been told. They do not have experience that confirms their belief so paraphrasing or explaining in their own words is difficult.

Christians are commanded by Jesus himself to go make disciples and baptize people in the name of the Father, the Son, and the holy spirit...so no it's not arrogance for Christians to post scriptures for others to read. In fact, I find it quite encouraging to see people who care.

Arrogant, yes. Also lazy. It's so much easier to cut and paste someone else's words and thoughts than to come up with something intelligent to say on your own.

I have to be honest though, when someone posts more than one screen of pointless bibble dribble, I just thumbs down it so that it's hidden and it doesn't interfere with me scrolling down the good answers.
