Umm...buddy, have you been to a Dunkin Donunts lately? I'm from Eastern Massachusetts too and Portuguese speaking Brazilians are basically the ONLY large-scale immigrant group you see around here. They work mostly the low-paying professions (DD's), but they're everywhere. Of course learning Portuguese would be beneficial, you'd actually be able to communicate with them instead of getting frustrated if your coffee order is messed up. Plus if you're interested in it, then why not? I don't know if this is just a New England thing or not that the Brazilians are by far the most noticeable immigrant group up here, and we rarely hear of Mexicans.

I discovered to talk German at college within the Seventies, the primary 2 or 3 years had been quite tough, I eventually bought my head across the phrase order laws via the age of thirteen/14 and went directly to complex stage German after spending tons of time round German audio system ( local ), I have discovered to talk Portuguese & Spanish within the final decade , they too are tough to be taught from 0 abilities, however I am all right with them now. it takes endurance and a eager ear as good as well reminiscence to be taught any language that's now not your local language !

I really believe that some day we will see Brazilian Portuguese people flocking into this country the way that we now see Mexicans and other Spanish Speakers pouring in. It is only a matter of time. Portuguese is a useful language.

It's a great idea. all over Mass. there are both Iberian Portugeuse and brazilians. Nice people and nice to learn their language.

I'm not Portugeuse. but I tire of hearing only spanish all around me. I want a change of pace.

You should see here in New jersey - the :Portugeuse neighborhood is solid and safe - and very hard to rent into. the Portugeuse keep it clean and safe and exclusive. they call it the
"IRON-BOUND" district. It's not icky and not rife with crime. thanks to the vigilance of these Portugeuse. they keep a solid community just like an Italian area. they are really GENTE BOA.
(good people)

learn Portugeuse with no regrets. You'll enjoy it and might find a nice Portugeuse girl to date. You never know. and her parents will love you!!!!!!!
