The digestive and respiratory systems are controlled by both the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems as are most body functions. The sympathetic system causes dilation (respiratory system) and constriction & increased activity (digestive system) and the parasympathetic system regulates constriction (respiratory system) and dilation (digestive system). Both are divisions of the autonomic nervous system.
