have bipolar and as long as I take my meds appropiately I have very little problems. I have never had a fullblown manic attack but have been Hypomanic (not sleeping, a little hyper. more anxiety). I am very intune with my feelings and try to look out for problems. I see a psych.regulary for meds, I also see a therapist.

I ended up in the hospital a few weeks ago and it was my own fault. I let to many little things catch up with me and then there was the straw that broke the camels back.

I had stopped seeing a therapist and had had some recent med changes. The last time I was in the hospital was 14 years ago.

As long as I accept responsibility for my own illlness, Ican control it, not letting it control me. As I said above I let to many little things add up.

Just to let you know, I am in healthcare management which is a highly stressful job. Until now my employers knew nothing of my Bipolar, I just felt it best not to disclose as there is still a "stigma" out there. Ayway Bipolar does not define me.

Take your meds, join a support group, NAMI has one all over the country, check NAMI.com. See your dr, and see a therapist as needed. Look for ways you can cut out stressors ie: keeping order in your surroundings makes it easier to relax (clean your house and workspace) establish a set bedtime routine. I shower, put on my face cream and loios, read a little bit of the Bible and pray, the Bible may not be right fo you but there are lots of motivational books out there that you can use. This is called sleep hygeine and is essential to ending the day and starting fresh in the morning.

A healthy diet and exersise also help

Best of luck for you, Remember no one can get well for you. YOU have to do it for yourself.

Bipolar the lamentations and the euphoria of our times. It is a bumpy ride and sometimes you will want to end it all, but stick it out anyways. There will be periods of creativity with endless dreams, but that will be followed by a barren landscape like a trench in WWI. Now there are medications and good ones for this disorder, but they are not a cure so you will have to stay on them. These medicines will smooth out the ride, but to stabilize well you will need a good therapist too. Therapy will point out triggers and coping strategies on how you can handle the bipolar landscape. The thing is everybody has their own special way of dealing with this conundrum and someday you will too. Then you will be able to use the bipolar lens and see the world in a way that not many can.

I am Bipolar and OCD, but neither is too extreme, but they really do effect my life, when it comes to the bipolar. my doctor prescribed me some meds, but I don't take them because Ive heard they don't even work, what I do is recognize when it is happening and take control, I usually tell my husband if I snap at him, why, so he don't fight back and make things worse, you have to let the others around you know, it is something that you cant help, but are working to control it, stay cool and calm and take control of the situation, call a time out or something, keep things you enjoy in you life. I'm sorry about the Lyme Disease, it must suck, I wish you all the best in Life!!

Well, they shouldn't think anything. With proper medication and therapy you can live a very normal life. There is no reason for you to be embarassed. It is not like you intentionally went out and got it or ran into it . The other thing too is it can be hereditary and run in families so they may know something about it that can help you too. It is really better when everyone knows and can support you. It is hard to do it without a support group.

I moderate Bi-Polar type 2 (more low than high, less severe mania) that my doctor is currently re-evaluation to see if it should be upgraded to severe type 2 or moderate type 1. hurray.

I....don't take my meds. I don't follow the advice of the professionals, so I basically feel extraodinarily worthless and low. BUT. When I was on my meds, I felt....like a normal person. Best of luck to you, love. I hope you come out ok.

HI Kristen.... sorry to hear this honey... bi-polar,, wow,, i have several close friends that are and its not a good thing....

Stay on the meds,, even when you think that ,, "I'm ok now" !!!
People go to extremes during a manic period, spending money, wild ideas of how to make money, quick anger, and drinking and sex.... are quite common..

Wish the best for you....

good luck

I don't have that disorder but my 11 yr old brother does. We take things sort of slow so we wont get him going. You should find a hobby that is relaxing and get alot of time to your self and have supportive people around you it will help alot.

did your very own doctor tell you this?
I've been diagnosed with manic depression as well, but i don't think it's anything to serious. I just try dealing with it...
Be very careful with it though, try to get some help on this subject from your doc
