Breeding a dog on her first heat cycle is like a 12 year old having a baby... it can be done, but it isn't the most ideal situation. My vet recommends waiting until their 3rd heat or 2 years of age, whichever comes later... they just aren't mature enough physically or emotionally to carry and care for a litter before then. Also, by waiting until they are 2 years old, you can make sure their hips and elbows have been OFA checked and cleared from dysplasia.

Animals are like humans you would not want a baby to have a baby and this is the same with dogs. You also find that she will be a much more responsible mother and it should also help to mellow her down if she is a hyper or high strung dog . Just remember that you are her parent now and do what you think is best so that you may have your wonderful pet in your life forever ! Good luck !

because she will be older...and the whole carrying/whelping situation is easier for older dogs than the young pups. Besides the fact that most dogs come into heat between 6 and 10 months. They are still puppies at that age.

because their first heat they are 6 months so they are not fully mature and the breeding will stunt their growth and make delivery hard and their milk production will be lower

also they should NEVER be bred untill they have been to enough shows to prove they are an excellent example of the breed WORTHY of passing on their genetics

every heat cycle a female experiences increases her chances of uterine cancer.. and other health problems

if the dog is a pet rather than a show dog it should not be bred

Because your b-i-t-c-h is still a BABY and she is not through growing up herself. Look at it this way, HUMAN females come into their first estrus at about age 11-13; do you think they are either mentally or physically prepared for a baby at 11 yrs old? No. Same for dogs. They are neither physically nor emotionally READY for a pregnancy that young. They may be physically capable of pregnancy, but pregnancy takes a huge toll on the body. Because of the way the body is hardwired to deal with a pregnancy, the puppies' needs will come ahead of your *****, and SHE is at a crucial growth stage herself and needs those nutrients. So, again DO NOT SKIMP ON GOOD QUALITY FOOD to minimize the damage to your b-i-t-c-h!

Because a female is usually at least a year old by the time that they have their second heat. Plus, dogs usually grow until they are at least a year old.

To ensure that she has developed fully, often first time heat breedings result in failure, and damage to reproductive organs. Play it safe for you and you pet.
