When I was 8 (now 20) I liked getting Barbies and playing girly stuff, but wasn't too much into pink colors or lace and such. From my experience of painting (and re-painting) about 5 different rooms in my folks' house, the best colors are those that are favorites for a long time, and soft creamy white. Also, a light yellow- like a Primrose kind of yellow- might be good because it isn't a hyper color, but it is happy! Merry Christmas! Have a safe holiday! ~L~

Good suggestions above for adding scented oils to the paint and also making it magnetic which could be fun but orange and purple makes me think of Halloween. Also, what if the smell comes out bad or too strong and then you are stuck with it? I am going to look into that stuff tho.

Anywho, I would do something that she will like at least for the next four to five years so that means nothing TOO girly. Purple is good for that and you may want to do cream stripes or maybe even a soft yellow. She's old enough now to know what she likes so ask her. Its her room anyways, right?

Bedrooms are places that should soothe, so that sleep comes easily. Pale soft minty greens, buttery yellows, hints of lavender, pink and beige/ tan tones to pull it all together might work. If she's a bit of a tomboy then opting for creamy coffee colors with accent colors of mid tone blues and rich red/ deep chocolate browns might be the way to go. Speaking as someone who's been down that path, the biggest help was letting my son help to choose the colors, including compromising on certain details. Good Luck!

Don't think about her choices as of today, think about a girls taste at the age of 11 yrs old. Unless you want to paint several more times as see gets older. For example, I have a 10 yr old who loves the color yellow. We just painted her room and it is pink and orange. Her 13 yr old sister lovesw the color purple and her room was just painted lime green and light blue. there is no rhyme nor reason. Just remember you and she will have to live with in for a few years.

Go with orange and purple. They are at opposite ends of the color spectrum, so when put together create an interesting effect. Furthermore, there are little packets of oil you can add to the paint that make it smell really nice. There are other additives that make the paint magnetic too.

there are plenty of good pastel colors out there that are very warm then u can highlight the room with wallpaper border at the top of the wall and at the 3' level which will also break up the colors. u could also go with two different colors, light up and slightly darker on the bottom at that 3' level
