I've been drinking diet coke all my life, and have never really liked any other sodas. Everyone says cutting back on sodas helps you lose weight; does this include diet drinks? thanks! :) any other tips?

thanks for all of your advice :) I drink tons of water, but it seems like my whole family (including myself) is addicted to diet coke. Hopefully during the holiday season, I'll be able to catch up on my sleep and won't need that extra caffeine and can exercise more often.

Sigh(directed at the people saying diet drinks have heaps of sugar)... Died sodas do not have sugar in them. hence the whole "diet" thing. The reason they don't have calories is because the sugar(read carbohydrate aka calories++) is taken out. If there are no calories you CANNOT gain weight by drinking the stuff.

The reason diet drinks are said to not be good for you is because the "natural foods only" camp is calling the artificial sweeteners in them toxic and carcinogenic. They have no proof but since it's not "natural" it must cause cancer.

Here are your rules for weight loss: Cut down on calories to about 1500-1600 per day if you're a girl, 2400-2600 if a guy. Exercise by doing both weights and cardio 4-6 days per week. Exercise means WORK HARD and SWEAT for at least 30-45 minutes.

As for drinks, look for the calorie or Kilojoule content. If it is 0(or close like less than 10) it's fine to drink and you WON'T gain weight from it any more than you would from water.

Don't follow diets telling you you can lose X amount in just a week or 2. Slow steady weight loss and NEW HEALTHY HABITS is the way to lose weight. If you lose it overnight you'll put it back on with interest.

YES, especially Diet soda.

they maybe be "Diet" but they have so much sugar in them so they taste good that it's kinda a waste of money.

Plus if your one of those: "Ill have a Big Mac, large Fries, and a Diet Coke" people, your waisting your time drinking diet, because JUST the diet soda alone isn't going to make up for the high calorie food you eat with it.

And yes, cutting back on soda is a good idea for loosing weight. You can cut your calorie intake by, I think it's around 1000 calories a week if you stop drinking ANY kind of soda.

You see, diet coke has 0 calories which is FANTASTIC! BUT, it has sweeteners which are not good for us. If there were no sweeteners, then who would buy diet coke? Diet coke doen't really make a difference UNLESS you drink it excessively. Drinking once a day would be umm.. unhealthy, once in two days would not be that healthy and once in three days should be okay. As long as you exercise regularly, it would be fine although for the sweetener part, i really dont know. BTW, cutting back on diet coke will not help you lose weight (if it is a DIET drink) but it is unhealthy.

REMEMBER : EXERCISE REGULARLY (and you can continue enjoying your diet cokes! :P)

Personally, I don't drink Coca-Cola (diet or regular) any more because of the phosphoric acids. Diet drinks, like Sprite Zero, wont effect you weight-wise. They're nothing more than carbonation and flavoring. But, again, if you are to drink Coke, stick with Diet--it doesn't have HFCS, which is always good.

Switching from regular to diet would have obvious weight loss benefits because of the reduction of calories. However diet drinks already have very low calorie content as it is. Cutting back may help in someway in terms of overall health because of the amount of carbonic acid and other chemicals in sodas. You might want to include more water and less sodas (if you go the flavoured water rout read the labels- some are sweetened with sugar and have almost as many calories as regular soda or juice).

i used to drink a ton of diet soda...last summer i started drinking more water and sip on coffee more often. I have lost 40lbs but for other reasons I am sure. I changed my diet, and started running 6 days/week instead of 2 or 1 day. But I will tell you I lost my desire for the 44 oz diet cokes for some reason. I think they made me feel bloated in the short term is why. I would never touch the sugar stuff. that is toxic. good luck. run and skip meals. it works.

I am a fanatical Diet Coke drinker. I love the stuff. I have heard the "cut back on diet soda it will help you loose weight" argument also. I have gone on diets and cut way back on my Diet Coke intake and did not loose any more weight drinking it than I did not drinking it. So I say, if you enjoy it, drink it.

Diet soda is basically cancer starting chemicals with all of the chemicals in regular coke. All it's missing is some sugar.

Im sure cutting pop completley out of your diet would help you lose weight. However, when I switched from regular to diet, I lost like 8 pounds, it was amazing. Try drinking splenda drinks, it's better for you.
