Bankruptcy is worse. You can explain and even fix a civil judgment, but you can't fix a bankruptcy. Bankruptcy tends you hang over you like a black cloud, whereas a judgment just looks like a mistake. Bankruptcy says you couldn't make it and took the easy way out, a judgment says you didn't make it. You can always take care of a judgment. Sometimes even settling it for 1/2 the amount at which point a satisfaction would be filed clearing your credit.

Civil judgement means you will be hounded for the rest of your lif eor until your debt is paid, Bankruptcy means your debts are removed(or usually) and the creditors cannot hastle you.
If a civil judgement is brought against you secessfully than they can attach your home, car, salary, savings account, personal prpoperty. garnishee your salary, take any tax refunds you might get.
If you get a decent lawyer you should be able to go bankrupt and be released form debt.
Under bankruptcy your credit history is cleared in 7 years. just be sure you list all debts.
All so if you can afford to pay your bills you will not get much help from bankruptcy.

You can find people who may take either side. A bankruptcy is usually considered worse. It will stay on your credit for up to 10 years. A civil judgment will stay on your credit for 7 years.

I assume you are talking about from a credit score perspective. No doubt what so ever, the BK is worse than a judgment.
If you have a judgment you might be able to settle on it at some time, ie pay X% of the balance in exchange for having it removed or listed as paid, zero balance.
As a point of trivia, I did not misspell judgment.

Usually, one judgment is not enough to file bankruptcy; you can settle or resolve it. However, if you have a series or number of financial "disasters", then bankruptcy may be the solution. Depends upon your point of view...credit score or handling your financial matters.
