5 years ago I bought two tickets round trip for only 250 dollars. Now a one way to visit my family in MN cost me 450 bucks. Doesn't that tick you off? I know I am.

The bright side is that there are more budget airlines to look for nowadays if you are going international. What make the tickets so expensive are not the actual ticket but the add-ons like the increased airport tax, environment tax, fuel-surcharge, peak period charges, security charges. Add ons can cost as much as the ticket itself.

If you go to a travel site, it generally cheaper then going directly to the airline website. But Southwest and Jetblue are the cheapest through their website, they don't offer a discount through a travel site because their prices are low. You're right it is expensive.

Go to google and type in, "find cheap airline tickets". You will find many websites selling tickets at many different prices.
