I'm 23 now, and when I was 16 I was hospitalized for anorexia. Recovery has been hard and sometimes I've backslid, but never too far. Now I'm 5'8" and 142 pounds, and I feel fat and ugly. But I'm afraid that I won't be able to be 'sensible' about losing weight, because I'll take it to the extreme. I have no support system and cannot afford to mess up because I have no one to pick up the pieces. But at the same time, don't I have the right to exercise and diet so I feel more confident?

Yes, but it's sort of along the lines of a recovering alcoholic thinking that it's okay to have just one drink. Why take the risk?

I'm not saying totally stop caring about what you eat and how you feel, but you *know* what the anorexia road looks like and leads to, and how not-fun it is. At your height and weight you are absolutely *fine* - perfect and healthy in terms of height/weight proportion.

You've obviously thought about this: You've been hospitalized, you probably know that you're not fat but you feel that way, you're afraid you can't diet sensibly, and you know you have no support system. Now is NOT the time to try dieting again.

Hang in there, stay strong, focus on how good it is to be healthy and have energy rather than being skeletal and so miserable you're numb.

i dont think u need to lose weight at all, especially if u feel that ur at risk. why dont u try eating a healthy balanced diet and getting half an hour of exercise every other day or so. by balanced, i mean fruits, veggies, meat (unless ur a veggie, then find some other way to get protein), eggs, dairy, the works. i bet there is an anorexia hotline you can call that could help u work out a good diet and exercise plan, cuz i dont really have any idea what im talking about. if not, ask ur doctor for help, its their job. good luck, and please take care of urself, being anorexic isn't pretty, its sad, and its SO unhealthy

If you have the money to, try joinining a gym, and talking to s trainer about your past. I'm sure they'll be able to help you out. Even at the community college, the instructor is liscensed and has to take a vary tedious test on knowing info like that (my aunt is an instructor at a college). If you don't have the means to do so. Another trick you may want to try is keep a pic of the way you used to look with you at all times, so anytime you think you may be going overboard it can be there to remind...

You should not try to lose weight. Every inch over 5 feet you are supposed to get 5 pounds heavier which means at 5'8" you are about 142 and right on target. good job!!!!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
