What a very GOOD idea.

It isn't customary, but it is very original, polite and gracious and you want to stand out in a positive way with your boss.

Go 4 it! (congrats)

this is a very good question. My opinion is yes. In today's society, people tend to believe they are entitled to a holiday bonus or profit sharing or what have you. Then they get angry if they don't get it. The fact of the matter is when you accepted your (or anyone else reading this) position, you were given a salary (hourly or not) that you would be paid for the job completed. This salary most likely does not include any bonuses. Given that this is something other than your normal paycheck which is expected weekly or bi-weekly, i would say yes, send the note. You may also want to send one to the department head that decided they had enough revenue this year to issue bonuses. My husband gets a profit sharing check monthly (yes monthly), and this amount was not included in the salary he was told when he interviewed. We always send a thank you note to his manager and the owner for the extra income. It doesn't have to be detailed such as what you will use the money for, just tell them that it is a great surprise, and you appreciate the show of appreciation from the company. I'm sure many do not do this, so doing so may put your name in every ones mind the next time a project or promotion comes up too.

Happy Holidays

Yes, Very much customary. Because they could have chosen not to given you a holiday bonus. Even if you just go up to your boss and just to say "Thank You" in Person. That will make there day more then you will ever know!

I remember getting a Christmas bonus and told my boss "Thank You!" And his face lit up in surprise! I could tell that it was a rarity that people tell there boss's Thank you for Holiday bonus's. So I suggest either an IN Person Thank you or a Thank You Note!

I suppose it would be a nice thing to do and perhaps encourage them to continue with the nice bonus checks. However I don't think that it is anything that you are required to do or worry about if you don't. But sure it wont hurt anything and make you look good in the process.

normally people do not thank their bosses for a christmas bonus unless you work for a very small company; however, it is a very good idea and you will definitely stand out so i say that you go ahead and do it.

can't be too polite can you?

have a merry christmas! SD

Absolutely not. You received a holiday bonus, and when you see him/her in person, I would just briefly say, "Thank you for the bonus." If you don't see him/her, do nothing.

It would be nice to send a little something, maybe disguise it as an any-occasion gift. But a note will do, if you haven't thanked him in person.

If you thanked your boss personally, no. If you didn't, then yes. Either way, it's a great idea.... great public relations. It shows you do care about your company and your job.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!

not nessacery unless he went out of his way to convince the higher ups to give it to you, but you probably should anyway, it is a nice consideration and might help get you a raise next year. but make sure to talk to your co-workers, because the worst possible situation is for them to think you suck up to them.
