He is 44 and has had 3 heart attacks, 2 stent placements. He coughed up approx. 1/4 cup of blood about 6 weeks ago and I carried him to the ER. They could find no reason for what he did. He did not tell the Dr. that it happened during arousal. Today we again tried to be intiment and he began to feel smothered and started coughing up small amounts of blood tinged sputum. Does anyone have a clue as to what could be causing this problem? It is really putting a damper on our sex life. I am afraid that any time I touch him he may have to go to the hospital. He is becoming very depressed due to the lack of a sex life. His first heart attack was at the age of 39 . Before that he has had to endure 4 back surgeries so we have had a limited sex life since we were 30. These 14 years of fearing sex has taken a toll on both of us. I would appreciate any knowledge on what may be the cause. Educated guesses are also welcome. We are desperate.

When he was in the hospital 6 weeks ago they did CAT scans, X-rays and ran a scope into his lungs to see if they had missed anything . They say it is not cancer nor a blood clot. He is not on any blood thinners, or ED medication. They put him on antibiotics but they said that if he had an infection that is was very low grade yet he is still having the problem. We don't have insurance so we can't afford to many test.

If he's coughing up blood...that tells me he has a lung problem....why the doctors can't find something wrong is beyond me.
Maybe this will help...since you know his medical history you may be able to pin point the problem because there are several.

Does this only happen with sexual arousal or does it happen any time his blood pressure rises?

Hypotheses:
(1) High Blood Pressure
- high blood pressure leads to
{something}
- leading to blood in the respiratory tract

That something could be - congestive cardiac failure is my first guess - if he gets flash pulmonary oedema he could have frothy pink sputum and shortness of breath +/- chest pains

Also consider ?nosebleed ?Arterio-venous malformation (AVM) bleeding

(2) Hyperventilation
- hyperventilation leads to
{something}
- leading to blood in the respiratory tract
This one's a little harder. I'm sure that some form of AVM could cause this.

(3) Drugs
- is he on some medication to aid his arousal?
- is he on a blood thinning tablet (warfarin/coumadin, aspirin, clopidogrel, dipyridamole, etc)

Anything produced via lovely boy, 'all we will do is dance and mime' boy bands, any duvet from an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, all 'dance' remixes of in any other case respectable songs, any Queen music that Brian May and Roger Taylor have allowed to be bastadised via crappy little nobodys and ultimately Ronan Keatings sh*thouse karaoke rendition of Iris.

It could be a fear of having another heart attack while having sex.
