After the new year, you will need a passport to travel anywhere outside of the US--even to Canada. You may as well invest in a passport if you plan to travel. They cost about $100 and are good for 10 years.

I've been to both. It is actually harder to get into the Cayman
Islands than it is to get into the United States. The Bahamas used to accept picture I.D. if you were on a Cruise Ship, but I don't think that is acceptable any longer. A passport is required.
These days you even need a passport to go into Mexico.

As far as Customs and Immigration are concerned, you will need a passport to travel anywhere outside the US ..except Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, as they are US territories....
now some AIRLINES may ask for a passport if yore flying, say, from Boston to San Juan or St Thomas..that's the airlines regs, not the US government, so check carefully.....

Starting Jan. 2007, you need a passport for anywhere. It's only about $100, just get it and be done, it's good to have anyway.
