Last December I was in the hospital for appendicitis and they removed it. During the stay they did a few blood tests (someting to do with a blood cell count or something [I don't remember]). I now am wanting to know my blood type, if I contact the hospital would they be able to tell me? My friend told me to go donate blood and they will tell me, but I am not eligible.

When I was on a ton of Morphone after the operation, while the nurse was doing the test, I asked if she could tell me (from the last test) or get from this test my blood type, and she told me in a sort of irratating (well, it might not have been, because everything was irratating after) that if "the doctor dident make an order to get it, I can't tell you."

if you had surgery the hospital would know. you are automatically typed and crossed prior to surgery in the off chance that you may need to be transfused.

You have to contact the medical records dept to full you file and tell them you wish to view it or have certain items sent to you.

Yes, if you had a surgery, the hospital will know your blood type. You can also go in for a random test in a clinic to find out if you cannot donate.

Ryan take it from a pro...I've had 17 operations...very serious operations at that and every single time I've asked for my blood type they told me they didn't know. They told me you have to do a certain blood test to find that out or donate blood. So there ya go.

Not usually. they type only if they expect to transfuse. They usually have you give blood ahead of time if they expect that to happen. Otherwise they can type quickly these days so it isn't routine.
