Try an oatmeal based doggie shampoo...oatmeal helps alleviate many skin conditions and has less chemicals compared to the anti-dandruff formulas. Also, I bathe my dogs in Avon Skin So Soft bath oil after their doggie shampoo is rinsed out...it's helped my younger pups dry skin and leaves their coat soft.

to all the people who say that this person shouldn't have the dog if they can't afford it: parvo treatment is ridiculously expensive from what I've heard and most times the dog doesn't even make it!!!!! and to whoever said a $15 shot could've prevented this I think you must've missed that this is a puppy. Puppies can still get parvo until after they've had all vaccinations. I just got a puppy and I'm trying to keep her from going anywhere that other dogs go for this reason. By the way I can't afford $2000 for treatment either. I guess that makes me a horrible person too. I think you can find ways to treat parvo at home but the odds aren't good. Ask the vet if there's any way you can make a payment plan or work it off. Someone here just the other day was saying that the vet told them how to treat at home but now I can't remember what they said. Maybe you should tell your vet your dillema and see what they suggest for someone who truly can't afford it. If you can't treat it at home I think your best bet is to give it to a rescue organization. They will save her if possible. You will of course have to give her up but at least she may have a chance. I'm so sorry you're going through such a horrible time and then you get lectured here to top it off.

Go to Petsmart or Petco and check if they have an oatmeal shampoo and condtioner. Bathe your dog in that and leave it on for about 5 min. Then rinse and conditon. Make sure to get ALL off the shampoo and conditioner out. Also I found that drying with a Hair Dryer helps keep dandruff at bay. Merry Christmas

First try using dandruff shampoo for dogs because unnecessary visits to the vet is just a waste of money. A while back when my dog had dandruff I gave him a mayonnaise massage. (Rub mayo all over body. Do not let dog lick it. Massage for about 5 minutes then wash off.) If the problem persists or if he starts to scratch at himself, go to the vet.

the vet can give you a shampoo, don't be discouraged if it doesn't work right away, took my neighbor and i a month , shampooing once a week. her dog had flakes that would surface when the dog would scratch, he also had oily skin and would smell just a few days after we would bathe him. this shampoo solved all those problems.

Good luck!
