My chinese shar-pei, chloe, got ran over yesterday and i'm having a hard time getting over it. I feel like i lost one of my kids. Anyone felt like this before? What are some ways to get over it? Plus, my husband is trying to make me feel better by saying he will get me a yorkie like i've always wanted but i really am not ready for one yet.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your dog was your baby and is has to hurt tremendously. When my cat died, I memorialized her. I got a collage picture frame and put in many pics of her from kitten thru adulthood. That was over a year ago and it still hurts. There is no easy way to get over it. Only time will heal. I got another cat 2 weeks after Kitty died. At first, I felt guilty of doing Kitty wrong. But as the days went on, my new cat Casey was the light in my life. You learn to love again. Never forget Chloe. I wish you the best of luck.

I know how hard it is to lose a dog that you loved so dearly. I lost my salt and pepper mini schnauzer, Josie earlier this year. She went out the front door to greet me and I didn't realize she hadn't come back inside...that is until it was too late. One of the neighbors saw her get hit and stopped and she was gone instantly. He brought her home to me so she wouldn't be hit anymore. I still moarn her loss and will always feel guilty for not realizing that she wasn't in the house.
Try not to beat yourself up too much. I know that it's easier said than done. I still cry from time to time when I drive down our street and think about her dying there alone...
Sorry was trying to help and probably only making things worse.
Wait for a while before you get another dog. You need to grieve Chloe first...

You probably feel rushed about getting a Yorkie. I had a guinea pig I relied on for about 4 years when she suddenly died. She helped me go through the years when my father abandoned my family. Anyways, after she died, my brother got me a Yorkie. At first I was mad but the dog helped me out of my depression. Now I have 2 Yorkies and they help me live on while my guinea pig still resides in my heart.

Sorry for your loss.....like losing a member of the family. Grieving doesn't have a formula or a time limit. One day at a time..... remember your pet... all the good memories, the laughs and the good times.... It may be hard today, a little easier each day thereafter.

Tell hubby steady... when you are ready for the Yorkie, you'll let him know.

Be Blessed!

The same thing happened to my lab-mix , Dickens, over a year ago. he was only 6 months old and I was devistated. The smae day we found him, my dad took my sister and i too get 3 basset hound puppies. Though I continued to mourn over dickens... the puppies helped me through it... it would have killed me to wake up the next morning without a dog... and I will always believe that the three of them are angels.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I agree that you might not want to rush out and get another dog right away. But, whatever decision you make now will be the right one.
