Toddlers whom eat candy once a week are twice more likely than their peers to have a mouthful of cavities by kindergarten according to 2001 studies by Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology.

However, chocolate flavored milk drinks have less sugars than fruit juices. (Of course, plain milk has less sugars than chocolate milk). Did you know that dark chocolate can help with coughs or diarrhea?

There also seems to be a hot topic regarding the behavior of children and sugar intake. The below web site discusses this.

I've never heard of such a thing... we have given our son little tiny bites of it... choc. ice cream, choc. cake, small small bites of reg. choc. He's just fine... he doesn't get a "caffeine buzz" from having it. I saw a tv show that gave kids a placebo instead of caffeine/sugar and the other half of the kids got caffeine/sugar... showed that they all acted the same afterwards... so I feel caffeine and sugar won't really make them hyper or anything like that. That's the only reason I can think of why you heard not to give kids under 2 chocolate- or kids in general.... I don't give my son very much chocolate at all, just occassionally- he needs more nutriets rather than filling up on chocolate!

I've never been told that kids under two can't have chocolate. I've given it to both of my kids and they are just fine.

Well, the combination of sugar and caffeine could make them hyper. I don't think there's any enzymatic or digestive deficiency. I know my child has had chocolate since before she was two (small amounts; everything in moderation).

I've never heard anything about children of any age (except maybe tiny infants) not having chocolate. My son certainly liked it, and as far as I can tell, it never harmed him in any way.

Who said they cant? If it has nuts in it there is a reason, but plain chocolate is fine.

I believe it's because chocolate has caffeine.

I would like to know who told you that. As far as I know all this will do is give them a sweet tooth or help them on their way to be over weight as they get older.

Because it's messy.

Seriously it's okay, just given in moderation because it'll make them hyper.
