If you don't get any viewable picture before it shuts off, it could just be a relay-switch.

Typical basic repairs run $50 for the call and $50 to $100 for a relay or capacitor or other usual stuff on tube TVs

No one will be able to give you a certain answer until it is looked at. Most TVs have a self test to find serious problems and will force themselves to shut down rather than do more damage.

Might be the capacitor across the horizontal output transistor, or the integrated flyback transformer may be shorted. Find a reputable shop to check it out. Other problems may be with the off-line power supply, less common.

Your TV is defect. One of the protection is working something short or open, please call the repair man. Big change is the H-Out transistor.

you probably don't have it hooked up right..and if you do then your television is just messed up...
