I've been using the Pantene Relaxed and Natural line for over a year now. My hair has improved a little since before I used it, but my hair continues to break whenever I comb it and it's still frizzy and dry. What do you think I should do for my hair and what products do you recommend?

My hair has the same problem... I find that only applying conditioner to the ends and not the roots helps a lot as it helps your ends stay moisturized and won't make the rest of your hair oily.

The Pantene line actually has a lot of alcohol in it. Use something more moisturizing like Nexxus. It costs more, but it makes a huge difference in the dryness and breakage. Sleep with a stain scarf on or if you're like me and can't stand anything on your head, invest in a satin pillowcase. This will keep the fibers in the fabrics from popping your hair. Avoid heat as much as possible;e. I try to dryer set my hair once a week and wrap it the rest of the time. It's not as curly later in the week, but still has a little bum in it. Believe it or not, washing more often helps. Water is a moisturizer. At the very least once per week. I found most if the information on line and just this little bit has helped tremendously. Best Wishes....

Do you dye your hair? If so the problem might be due to overprocessing. Try using semi permanent or vegetable dyes instead - they are far kinder.

Don't wash your hair too much, each time you wash it you are stripping your hair of its natural oils.

Try to let your hair dry naturally and keep the use of straighteners to an absolute minimum.

When combing your hair, start at the ends first, detangle those and work your way further up your hair as you go - this is a lot less damaging than trying to drag your comb through your hair from the roots down.

NEVER brush your hair when wet - it will stretch your hair and make it more prone to breakage.

Get regular trims at the salon, there is absolutely no point in having long hair that is in bad condition - it just looks awful!

Nourish your hair once or twice a week with either a leave in conditioner or with a hot oil treatment (you can use olive oil for this purpose, just warm it through, apply and then wrap your hair in a towel and leave for 20 minutes) When you come to shampoo the oil off, apply the shampoo straight onto your hair without wetting it first (oil and water don't mix!) massage the shampoo into your hair then rinse. Bear in mind that deep conditioning your hair in the winter months is especially important because central heating saps the moisture out of your hair.

Make sure your diet supports healthy hair growth, eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and drink plenty of water.

You might also like to try Indian Head Massage. This complementary therapy can be practised with or without the use of oils - just the massage element itself can stimulate hair growth, improve circulation to the scalp and distribute your natural hair oils throughout your hair more effectively.

I love Pantene products but it sounds like you need a change. I would suggest trying a professional product like Joico's Silk Results.
If you flat iron your hair every day, eventually it will cause irrepairable damage. The only way to fix it is with a hair cut. I have curly hair and straighten it every day. I use Silk Results shampoo and conditioner every day and Straight Smoother before blow drying. The Straight Smoother helps protect your hair from the heat of the dryer and flat iron.

I highly recommend a product you can get at sally beauty supply store call Doo Gro. It is a oil that is full of excellent ingredients. Get some disposable shower caps and saturate you hair in the Doo Gro oil and leave it on your hair as long as possible. I sometimes put it in my hair and braid my hair and sleep with it on my hair. It works really good and you will see improvement soon. Try to lay low on the hair dryer, flat irons or curling irons for a while and let your hair get some luster back.

As far as a shampoo I with "BuRn Di WiSdOm WeEd" try Mane and Tail shampoo (look for it at Walmart) and try taking either a hair, skin and nails vitamin or a prenatal vitamin (both also at Walmart) they will help strengthen your hair from the inside-out.
Also a really great product for weak hair is "Extreme Anti-Snap" by Redken you'll find it at salons and it is well worth your money. It will almost instantly improve your hairs texture. Good Luck

Pantene is probably the worst line to use on dry/damaged hair. The reason your hair is shiny when you use it is because it deposites a layer of wax on your hair. This causes hair to break easier. Try using a line like extreme by redken, it will deposit protein back in your hair.

A really good conditioner for your hair is mayonnaise. Work it into your hair then wrap head in warm towel and sit for 10-20 minutes before shampooing. It contains all the ingredients that help the hair, oil, protein (egg), and acid (vinegar.)
