You bet....from her own insecurities, and brother, thats no small thing.
If your secure or confident, try to put yourself in their shoes, or remember when you felt insecure. Maybe you were wearing the wrong thing for an event. Maybe you were heavier or maybe you just felt bad about yourself.
Simple little people simplify the matter as one of "looks". Good looking people get insecure all the time, and have the same Islamic compulsion to hide away.
Islam is essentially insecurity made dominant and made into religion.
Do me a favor. Take my little informal test. Everytime you speak to a Muslim, take note of their looks and level of self confidence. Keep inventory. I guarentee that the most insecure and ugly will always be the most passionate. There are some rare exceptions, but my experience, the ration is 1000 to 1.

For example, the few decent looking Muslims or, rarer still, "confident" muslims, will not be religious or passionate about Islam, almost everytime.
Take my inventory. See if it works.

Women in Islam have always been highly respected. since the beginning of time Islam did not blame women for descending from heaven. The Quran repeatedly states that they ( Adam & Eve ) are both responsible for listening to satan . ( Both )
islam does not deem women impure and dirty during their monthly period like other religions do.
islam protects the dignity and purity of women through Hijab. they have to be decent and covered when leaving their houses. why?
if you sell your gems on the corner of a busy street, every one will look and try to touch! but if keep the same exact gems in a highly protected place only serious suiters will try ( in the case of women it's only through marriage). that's what it's all about. decency.
look when women are not covered, they walk the streets half naked, dogs start barking and trying to grab...
islam guarantees women the right to education , work and participation in every aspect of life. under islam women are : doctors, teachers, engineers and mothers...
your equation does not stand the test of reality( a covered muslim woman does not equal an insecure ugly muslim woman)
islam's equation says ( a covered muslim woman equals a decent well-respected human being that does not follow the rules of your type of tearing womens' clothings in order that they satisfy your animalistic lust,
islam looks at women as half the society or maybe more.

It's a theory that's untrue. My doctor is a devout muslim and he's GORGEOUS and so is his wife. His nurse said that he doesn't keep pictures of his wife in his office anymore after so many had commented on how gorgeous she is.
As a red blooded American caucasian I can tell you that all good looking women at some point wish that they had a cloak to hide under from prying eyes. The attention is totally welcome at times, but there are times when you just want to disappear because you feel invaded by some men. ALL attractive women can vouch for that. We don't feel as safe as men at times. Only a woman can understand the threat we can feel (depending on where we are). Maybe they feel and ARE safer under there.

I don't think anyone can argue that the examples you site are not extremely oppressive situations. And I think it's quite a stretch to say that hijabs protect women since it has been proven that sexual assaults are rarely the result of unrestrained lust as much as they are the result of sociopathic violence. However, I believe that that the western world would be a better place if women didn't dress like whores as much as they do now.

Women wear covering clothes so tehy are respected for their minds not their breasts or booties. Muslim Women are self-respecting and don't parade around with mini skirts and tiny shirts that hug their bodies. Also a woman must be VERY secure with herself to walk around in western civilization and feel comfortable worshipping her God. With all the bad media Muslims are getting we must be VERY confident in order to practice our religion freely.
Oh, and by the way. what makes someone a good Muslim is their willingness to follow the religion, NOT their "ugliness" and "insecurity". P.S No creation of God is "ugly"
I agree with another anwser YOU are the one that is insecure.

My My... now you are adding silly 'informal tests' to your questions...
Yes, what we muslim women wear protects us from lustful eyes...
You are wrong Mister... Actually, you should be saying... 'Naked' women get insecure all the time! And who are YOU to decide who's good looking or bad looking.
Every muslim woman is beautiful... in the heart, in the mind and in her soul... We are confident women.. that's why we are confident enough to wear our islamic attire and cover our hair properly.. and not flaunt ourselves in public so that someone gets pleased by the looks, the body, hair... we do not present ourselves as sexual objects!

Try speaking to people in Malaysia. Many Beautiful muslim people who are confident and passionate about their faith there. Generally good strong foothold in their faith and the world.... there are of course a few exceptions as in ANY generalised groups.
When I say passionate, I do not mean fanatical.

Grow up lil boy!!!! what are you talkin about do you know how many muslims are very successiful. you come up with this petty lil theory because ............. it makes you feel good about yourself becuase indeed you are the one that is insecure about the modesty of us muslim women and you are so upset that we dont BARE AND SHOW IT .to comment on the lil remark you made about those that are beautiful are the ones that isn't very religious that is because they have no fear in god and dont follow the reliigon the way they r too.so get off your high horse and stop judging us and thinking that we dont have a brain and that we are insecure because WE R NOT FOR YOUR INFORMATION!!!!

Look here.... Just today I went shopping, I saw a beautiful girl she had long black hair and fair skin she stood tall in high heels I looked at her then just that second she bent over to pick up something from the bottom shelf then I turned my head DO YOU KNOW WHY "I" AS A WOMAN TURNED MY HEAD? Because I did not want to see her butt pop out of her short skirt!!!!
Alhamdu Li'lilah......
Call Muslim women what you want at least (unlike others) we don't have our private parts hagging out.....
And you want men not to come taking up skirt pictures of you women? At least when I'm wearing hijab I know I AM PROTECTED FROM PREDATORS AND PERVERTS.....
Am I as a muslim insecure? NO-
I stand as a muslim woman PROUD and I hold my head up high ALWAYS!!!

Muslims are humble, the Quran instructs us to be that way.
God has all power and we are conscious of that.
[25:63] The worshipers of the Most Gracious are those who tread the earth gently, and when the ignorant speak to them, they only utter peace.

Yes it does, it repels those who have no knowledge of respect and dignity and brings her respect from the honorable of society. Much like a habit does for a nun, except the Muslim may not get as much sincerity as a nun would.
Be careful in your guarantees. People sue over trivial things such as a false guarantee.
And while you're at it, take a looksie and then think about whether or not you remain so sure of yourself:
