I am taking a criminal procedure course and believe it or not all of my teachers say they would go to court on any and every ticket they get because even if you have to pay the fine, sometimes the points are dropped off your license. Also, if the officer don't show then it will be dismissed. I live in Michigan as well.

It's a trap and a waste of time. They'll just charge you more for the court date. You're better off just paying the ticket. If you decide to go to court, it tacks on an extra $50. I should know, I fought a ticket once...with parking and court fees I made a simple $100 fine into $165~ cut your losses and just take the initial ticket.

Be glad you weren't going 100 or you can slap an extra 0 onto your fine.

LOL!!! What is the other poster thinking?? Saying you are late for work won't cut it. They will tell you to LEAVE EARLIER next time.
You are better off fessing up to it versus trying to lie your way out of it...you could dig yourself deeper.

Were you going to the hospital? Were you being chased by bandits?
Otherwise just pay the fine. Don't lie.

it's too late for an excuse now... you need to have 1 ready when you get pulled over otherwise they will want to know why you didn't explain it to the cop.

Well, in this case you have to lie. So just make something up that you could have been doing. Ex. I was late for my work and I had to get there.
