You should consider seeing a doctor of holistic medicine. It's your best shot at treating the cause of your ADHD correctly earlier on than you would with traditional or business medicine. Pharmaceuticals should be a last resource when you can't cure the cause. There is significant evidence, especially in children, to indicate a mineral or vitamin deficiency that results in the group of symptoms known as ADHD. A magnesium suppliment can be used as a short term treatment. The correct dosage should be directed by a professional.
Read up on this, visit a Naturopath (with credentials N.D.), or a doctor that specializes in nutrition or who works in conjunction with a nutrition professional. A Homeopath (doctor of homeopathy) may also be equipped to treat ADHD without the use of psychotropic drugs.
Drugs used to treat ADHD are not as good an option as they are sold to be. The have side effects, like depression, and are proven to alter brain chemistry. You may be thinking that yes, that is the desired result to correct a problem with brain chemistry, but do you wish to risk permanent change? What if the treatment is the wrong treatment? You could end up having to cope with an addtional health complication while trying to get better. There is proof in research to support this. Read up!

Oh my. I could talk about this for a long time. I have ADD now. It really interferes with the daily functions. I used to have ADHD when younger. I have tried many many things. Prescriptions & natural. Paxil I DO NOT recommend. I've taken it. I hated the side affects BAD. Yes it does work for some. It (as they all do to some extent) numbs your feelings. Do u like to get it out & cry sometimes? Well Paxil can prevent that from happening. Yes I've talked with others who have said the same thing. Sam-e (an amino acid) helped some & for a little while but was very expensive, about $230-260 a month. Now I am on Phosphatidylserine (PS) 300-500-Mg a day. It has leveled out my mood swings & anxiety. Why natural you may ask? Because I don't have the awful side affects for one & I really don't like messing with my psych. Here's the link where I get mine. It's all natural & u can buy it online & once a month they have a buy-one-get-one-free sale. Try it before the meds ok. FYI: Google it like this "Phosphatidylserine" in quotes. Then click on "cached" & look for the highlighted word.
I will quit for now
Hope this helps you. I know the pain & frustration your going through.

you have a lot of options. it also depends on how bad the disorder is. sometimes, if it is mild, you may be able to work with a psychologist or therapist to learn coping and management skills to deal with this issue without medication.

however, most often there is medication involved. that means going to a psychiatrist and being diagnosed with adult adhd, and being put on medication for it. usually the medication will be some kind of central nervous system stimulant, like concerta, adderall, ritalin, and others.

taking medication doesn't mean that therapy wouldn't help. and taking medication is not being wimpy or anything like that. adhd is a disorder in the way an organ, in this case your brain, operates.

i take adderall for add (inattentive).

good luck!

I suspect they have been dealing with it up to the point the diagnosis was made. They would have developed ways to cope and live as normally as possible.
Similar condition as learning of Asperger's Syndrome. Deal with it.
