It may be that your dog is allergic. Dogs do not sneeze as we do, they lick their paws. Please see your veterinarian. He or she may be able to prescribe a medication as inexpensive as benadryl.

The consensus is correct, allergies are the most likely problem. However, there is an off chance he/she could have an injury, an infection, or an infestation. Medical attention is appropriate. Take the poor dog to the vet!

If your dog lives outside and there is freezing weather it could be frostbite. The animal could lose it's foot or leg from this, and then it's life. Once this starts it cannot be stopped.

Wash it off real good, get a flashlight, and get a friend to help hold him/her and take a good careful look. A piercing injury can cause infection without a wound being visible. Check for redness, heat, and swelling. If you see blood, signs of fleas or mites, an open sore, a scab that isn't healing, a discharge, heavy bruising, or abnormally blackened skin take doggy to the vet pronto or get expert advice based on what you see. Take the dog's temperature with a vetrinary thermometer, (You know where this has to go, right?) If you need to ask for more help this detail is important.

Good Luck : )

Call your vet, the dog could have an object stuck in its paw. A pine needle or a small sliver of glass???
Peace.

both front paws? or just one of them?
if the dog is not limping, the foot is probably not broken.
Important: check between the toes for foxtails.
if it's just a habit, it usually resembles a cat casully licking himself, not like gnawing.

She or he most likely got bitten from an ant, or it could be a habit or she/he might be turning into a cat! lol, give her a bath she/he might just be really dirty on the bottom of her/his paws.

It sounds like and allergy to something. Either outside or to the food you are feeding her/him.
They chew because they itch and that is the only way they can scratch.
Have the vet look at your pet before it gets really bad and raw and infected.
