Because of NAFTA old lady is not quite right - there would be no customs duties on US produced guitars. However, most of Canada has higher sales taxes and most US producers of goods and US based retailers charge higher prices (after monetary conversion) in Canada (a situation causing much griping here).

If you live in the US, it will be cheaper for you to buy a guitar produced in the US. If you live in Canada it is cheaper to buy a guitar produced in Canada. The reason is that to go from one to the other you have to add on transportion costs and customs, duties and taxes.
A guitar produced in Japan, China or anywhere else outside of continental America, will cost about the same in either country, as both will have to pay transportation costs and customs, duties and taxes.

Well, I believe that your way of thinking is wrong. (no offence). No, it is not, but that does not mean that you bring alot more money from here to Canada. Keep in mind, we are two different countries. Canada has different money than us, so you would not be spending more than what you spend here necciserily, you know. They have different money so it is not like you are waisting money that you wouldn't be waisting here. And, no it is not the same. I would buy one here, but when they are like 20% off or something % off so you do not have to pay as much.

Why help the American economy, Canada is where you earn your money. spend it here, plus remember the exchange rate, gas to get there and the trouble going through customs, it all adds up

guess it depends on the guitar you're looking for..
for every US dollar, you get 1.14 Canadian.

whatever you do, don't forget you may get unexpected custom fees. That's no fun!
