I have been to rehab before. My answer to this question in my opinion of why I am an alcoholic; it is genetic/heredity because there are alcoholics in my family, and I would watch them drink especially at get togethers, and I would think maybe I can do it too. It's not so bad, turns out it is. I hope this helps because that is the only answer I have for my reason. But it is not the matter of a right or wrong answer. if you don't know the answer to this question then just say you don't know why. As your time in rehab, you may be able to find out the answer. I hope this helps you and good luck.

Maybe you have a genetic predisposition. Look thru your family tree and see how many serious drinkers there are.
I drink too much beer and wine cos I like the taste. I knew a bloke that was able to get smashed within 45 minutes of getting home from work. He got pissed to hide from reality and finally the brandy killed.
There is no easy answer to your question but you should ignore most of the responses you have received. Because they are just plain silly.
Good luck and I guess you had better give up the grog.

You are an alcoholic because.....
You could have parents who were alcoholics
You cannot cope with life's smallest problems
Never learned coping mechanisms
Keeping everything that hurts you bottled up inside
Don't believe in therapy
Can;t admit to yourself you are an alcoholic and need help
Can't face the world and confront what ever it is you are having trouble with.
Constantly running away from problems rather than dealing with it.
Drinking to forget problems.

The kind of answers places liek that are looking fora re something like this..
"I am an alcoholic because my drinking causes pain and suffering to those around me. When I drink I cannot control myself and cannot refrain from doing or saying thing that ultimate make more trouble for my friends and family and I am unable to, of my own strength, stop myself from either drinking more than is reasonable or from doing thins when I drink that are hurtful to those that care for me. When I drink others suffer and I cannot stop doing either."
THAT is the kind of answer they want to hear. You might want to reword it to fit your own way of speaking but that's the general idea.
Now if you will excuse me I have a case of Tequilla to finish.....

For me it was, I didn't know when to stop.
And stopped when I passed out, with the drink
in my hand. (I never spilled, so I was told)
You just gotta be strong, and put your mind to it
and tell yourself "it aint gonna beat me casue I ain't
no pu$$y" Stopped cold turkey. Alcohol free since '92.
Are you a pu$$y?

Because you are deficient in "self-regulation." In other words, you do not know how to calm your negative emotions. You do not deal with stress well.
We learn self-regulation in early childhood, from our primary caretaker; usually our mother. People whose mothers were not good at reassuring them and calming them in early childhhod develop disorders of self-regulation.
But LOOK INSIDE YOURSELF for the answers, and just tell them whatever answer comes from your heart; it will be the right one. May you find peace.
