I don't have an engagement ring, I wear a 1/2 carat "right hand ring" (the bubble style) for a wedding band/engagement ring. It was about $600.00. My husband and I are thinking about a traditional solitaire, and band set soon. how big are your rings? I see people at work, and their rings look HUGE, but I would never ask how many carats they have at work....

I know that it isn't how big the rock is. I have already been married for a year and a half, we're just upgrading now, and I want to get a good deal, and know what the average sized ring is...

I helped pick my ring out, and its very simple and I love it. Its not how big your "ROCK" is, ITS How much you care about the person your with. My ring is very small and was like $300 and we got it on sale for even less then that. When you decide to get married think about making your wedding about you and your spouse and not about how you can show off for everyone, you will save alot of money and your wedding/reception will be alot more.

My engagement and wedding rings are very nice, very classic. They total 2 carats. On the engagement ring, there are 9 diamonds. The center diamond is the largest at 1 carat and round, then 8 slightly smaller diamonds are channel-set, 4 on each side. The wedding band also has 9 diamonds that match the smaller diamonds on my engagement ring, channel-set as well. The bands are platinum. My now husband asked me to go ring shopping with him only 1 month after we started dating, and he proposed 3 months later. :)

My ring is 2.75 carats with 1.75 carats being the center stone. When I got the ring I was so happy I thought I had the biggest ring out of anybody I knew, and then I started working on Wall St. My ring looks like a penny stock compared to the rocks that I see people with, and my ring is pretty big. I would say a two carat is ideal, however where I work, my next upgrade has to be at least 3 carats.

mine is 5/8 and everyone thinks it is 1 1/2 because of the way it was set. My wedding band is a wrap with 3 additional diamonds on each side in the shape of a triangle. Kay Jewellers always has great sales...I think my wrap was 1/2 price...about $499. My diamond was about 4 times that... but a wrap can make a huge difference on a tight budget.

Pat, I can tell you this much: I did want a 2 Carat solitaire diamond ring...what I got was much prettier! We selected our rings together. I reasoned that I wasn't really into wearing jewelry anymore (like in my teens) and I probably wouldn't want anything BIG and bulky to get in my way while using my hands. I got a mid-sized "model" with diamond baguettes (I LOVE Those) on either side of the wedding band that fit around the marquee solitaire diamond. {He got a gold band with baguettes slicing through the middle in opposing directions - which he LOST about a month or so ago!!!!} Anyway, I have since regretted that decision and wanted the BIG RING! Only because I see more "mature" married women with their 10 or 20 Year Anniversary rings they always tell me they waited 10-20 years to get! However, I can say that I am happily content to wait for five more years for my 10-Year Anniversary altogether. I look very forward to my 20-Year Anniversary Big Ring purchase, though. Fortunately {Praise God!}, my hubby does a lot for me in between Anniversaries, so I am very content to wait, or to receive at all. Yours, Elisa

I am at 1 1/2 carat and I think in five years that I can upgrade to a larger solitaire (the center stone is .45) it is very nice and doesn't' look fake

Mine is a 1/2 carot marquise cut in white gold....it ran us about a grand. I would have liked more, but we were in the process of buying a house at the time, and knew we would be doing major renovations, so I decided that this ring would get me just as engaged as any old 5 carot in platinum would, and I love it! Plus, I will be living in a house after March 24 that I love and can afford due to us not racking up big bills on rocks!

traditionally the size of the center diamond on a ring for engagement is atleast 1 carat. this is not including the weight of any other diamonds or side-stones on the ring

poisoneva: are you trying to say that the total carat weight of all of the diamonds on your ring are 5.75? because a single center diamond of that size would be too large for you to function with it on your finger every day, and would be astronomically expensive.
Britney Spears' engagement ring cost $40,000 and was only 4 carats...

if that really is how big your ring is, congratulations, i bet that's gotta be a sight to see. but i really don't believe that's the case, because people with that kind of money don't need Yahoo Answers, they have Personal Advisors!

if you are upgrading then buy a single solitare that is 1/2 carat or a little more if you can afford it and a wedding band....if you can afford 1 carat then go for it...but you are right...it's th symbolism of the ring not the size...it's whether you have a good marriage...not whether you have a big ring...good luck

My fiance picked out my ring all by himself, and he did such a good job! It's .81 carat, round diamond in a tiffany setting. It's not a perfect diamond, but it's from the love of my life, and I adore it.

Poisoneva - I think people are giving you thumbs down, because NO ONE believes your diamondis 5.75 carats. Thats' just ridiculous. And even if you are telling the truth, your fiance/husband is an idiot for spending that much money on a ring...
