keep an eye on the cut...if is starts getting red and swollen, its infected....and it is a good possibility, if it wasn't cleaned real well prior to your treatment...If it is deep enough that you can see subcutaneous fat...it needs stitches. Im thinking though, if it isnt deep enough to require stitches, it was cleaned, and treated with the antibiotic ointment...it should be fine.

Take your child to a Doctor and get him antibiotics the Doctor will most likely prescribe a strong one. It can get infected and quickly also there is a thing they call Cat Scratch Fever which is very bad, sodon't wait for any signs of infections go right away. I was bitten and scratched deeply by a cat, it was fighting with my cat and I threw a blanket over them to try and stop it when I grabbed my cat or tried to one of the cats bit me, I'm still not sure which, but between the bites and scratches I waited for a few days and became infected the Doctor told me never to wait after a cat scratch domestic or wild and he prescribed a very strong anitbiotic to prevent anymore infection and he also printed me a long report on cat scratches and how they can affect humans I was shocked by the dangers, so please have your son see a Doctor right away. If in doubt look up Cat scratches and bites on the Mayo Clinic site or a Vet site they will also explain the dangers. I love my cats so much but I'm very careful from now on. Good luck to you and your son, I hope he's alright but it's always better to be safe than sorry. Happy Holidays.

I think you should go to the doctor. I have been around cats all my life with so many cat bites and scratches too many to count. But this summer, I had a stray cat bite me and I got Cat Scratch Fever. I had never heard of Cat Scratch Fever except in the song.I thought I was getting the flu, but my bite kept looking worse. I had to take antibiotics and was sick for over a week. Also, very very tired, no strength. Better get it checked out!!

the antibiotic ointment will protect against infection. I get scratched inadvertently all the time coz one of my cats tend to cling to me with claws and all when I carry him. He also goes in and out the litter box and none of the scratches I get ever get infected - even when I don't put antibiotic ointment on it.

Oh, don't blame the cat... kids and cats don't often mix becuase kids move so abrubtly and erratically which tends to freak some cats a bit. I have to watch my grandsons when they are around my two cats... usually, I keep the grandsons away from the kitties when I am not around to supervise and I have taught them how to approach slowly and calmly so the cat does not think it is being threatened.

What I would do is put some Neil sporn and a band ad because Niel sporn to make it heel faster and it keeps it from infection also the band ad helps from bacteria getting into it you could also use butterfly stitches which are bandages that hold together like stitch except there are no actual needles hitting the skin ask a doctor too!

cats claws do carry a lot of bacteria all the time, thats why scratches will puff up. if it looks bad then is best to see a doctor. when i worked in a vets we had to go to the docotor if we were bitten by a cat, i dont think scratches are normally as serious but if its deep and near the eye the it could get infected.

Skin abrasions caused by cat scratches are unlikely to become infected, so long as they are thoroughly sterilized. I'd suggest some hydrogen peroxide on a cotton ball in addition to Neosporin. It's cat bites that can cause problems.
I have seven kitties and am scratched regularly and i'm still here :)

I agree. Cat scratch fever can be serious. I work for a petstore and got scratched. We automatically send all cat scratches regardless of how bad they are to the ER. all he'll get is a shot and some antibiotics, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

I would make a doctor appointment tomorrow. Explain what happened. Maybe he might need a tetnus shot. Ask the nurse on the phone. If the doctor needs to see him. Or maybe the nurse can tell you what the doctor said. Call early in the morning. So the nurse can call you back. Hope he is okay!

Call your doctor tomorrow and tell them what happened. I was scratched by my dads cat and started getting a yellow line on my arm it was cat scratch fever i did not know there was such a thing but I felt fine I guess its because of my family doing what you are doing. I was on antibiotics for 5 days and i was fine.
