I've always had my male cats neutered at around five to six months of age. Some vets will do it quite young. My sister recently was given a kitten that was neutered at about 10 weeks of age. Personally I think that's a bit young. Don't wait beyond six months though! Spraying is instinctual - marking territory - but is is also virtually impossible to break once they start doing it. Neutering them young generally isn't harmful in my experience, but some males may not grow as big and potentially muscular as if they were neutered a bit later.

It is suggested that you get a male cat neutered at 6 months, but you can get it done sooner. A lot of animal shelters and pet stores neuter animals before six months. A male cat normally starts spraying around six months, sometimes a little bit later. And you will definately know when they have sprayed. It's much stronger than the smell of urine, and it's hard to get rid of.

My vet recommends 6 months. I waited that long to get both my males neutered and neither have ever sprayed to my knowledge. I am hearing now that cats can be fixed at about 8 weeks old but I trust my vet and I'm sticking with him. Cats will start to spray as soon as puberty hits (about 5-6 months).

Most vets and shelters do early spay and neuter procedures. They can be spayed or neutered as early as 8 weeks of age as long as they are 5 pounds or more. They start to spray at around 6 months. Best of luck and Merry Christmas.

My vet recommends neutering at six months and it's always worked for me: I've never seen or even heard of a male kitten spraying before that age. They reach puberty more slowly than females do.

They are ready to get neutered as soon as they start spraying, of course. If you want to beat them to that, 5 to 6 months is average. Call a vet if you need more precision, but it's like puberty for us, there isn't a guaranteed age or time.

All of my cats were neutered or spayed as soon as they could be intubated ( about 2 pounds ). A lot of rescue organizations alter before adopting them out as that way they are assured they won't reproduce. Check with your vet for their recommendations.
Spraying can start early so watch out.

Most people will tell you that they can be neutered at a young age but I will tell you what my vet told me and that is before 6mnths . at that time they begin to go through puberty and will start to spray to mark thier territory . they will mark anyting that is considered their property that includes you , clothes , furniture, and outside territory but usually if you get them neutered they will not spray

definitely... before they start spraying...

even if u neutuer kittens who already started marking a specific territory, it gets preetty hard to make them stop even if u already have them neutured.
