Whether or not you can dance is NOT a core Assembly of God teaching or doctrine. We accept the Bible as truth and that is our doctrine.
I am an Assembly of God minister and have seen topics like "dancing" addressed differently in different churches. Good people will have different opinions on this- but they are just opinions. What is important is looking at the Bible and seeing what it says.
(The roots of the Assemblies of God is associated with the early "Holiness" movements, but we aren't really a part of that movement. And no, we don't mandate skirt or hair lengths, although that was prevalent decades ago, I believe. Today, AG churches welcome all and, for the most part, are pretty casual.)
I would suggest that modesty and good judgment should prevail. But no, there is no prohibition against dancing.
And yes, it is a valid form of worship if done with a proper heart and within proper order of service. (ie, if the pastor's preaching, that's not the time to start a new dance...)
Dancing with the opposite sex, in my opinion is OK, but I would caution against improper touching and all that. But then again, you knew that. Dancing to sexually excite another would also be a bad choice, of course. So just use good judgement.
As for the future, if you are at odds with what a pastor says about a subject - look at the Bible yourself and ask that Holy Sprit guide you. You can read the ag.org position papers for an opinion on these topics, and that's great, but the Bible is the final authority - not what I or anyone else teaches you.
God Bless - John

Don't let other people tell you what you "should" believe. The people who are preaching to you are human, just like you are, and they don't have any right to control or manipulate you.
If you love dancing and it makes you happy, then you obviously don't believe in your heart that it's wrong. So hold on to your own beliefs and don't try to change them to suit other people because it'll only stifle you and make you unhappy.
Loads of churches use music and dance every time they get together, so why not try different groups in your area to find one like that? There'll probably be one where everyone dances and gets the same happiness from it that you do. Or perhaps one with a dance group where some of the people get together and do dances, maybe perform them from time to time
Ultimately, there will be somewhere out there that's right for you, where you fit in and where you can express yourself and be happy. Have a look around and don't feel like you have to keep going somewhere that doesn't feel right to you. Good luck!

There are a few Christian religions who have made up their own rules in addition to the Bible. The "no dancing" rule if one of the more popular among those sects.
I would suggest finding a good non-denominational church.... they teach only what is in the Bible... no extra, made-up rules that you have to follow.
The Bible says that would should sing and dance and make music unto the Lord. It is a form of worship. It should not be taken away.

Dancing is only "wrong" in the human rules established by that denomination. The A of G is part of the old "holiness" denominations that believe that outward actions determine the condition of the heart. The truth is that God is much more concerned about how deeply we love Him and others than whether we dance or not. Since dancing is NOT condemned in the Bible, dance to your heart's content! :-)

I grew up in assembly of GOD churches and I was told the same thing. I have never seen that in the BIBLE. I have never heard of any other religions that teach that either. I am now lutheran, but I listen to Baptist Christian radio, and I have never heard either one say you cant dance! So personally I think that they are wrong.

it is NOT wrong to dance, jesus even danced at a wedding! however, when you begin dancing in a provocative way or to entice others, then it becomes not so much a good thing. i am not sure if even doing it that way is a sin. if you feel like it is, if your conscience says what you are doing is wrong, then it probably is. dancing is the lowest of offenses you could commit though. tell me, if i dance with my father, or if a man and woman dance at their wedding, what sin have they commited? there is none. ask your church why they feel this way and where it says in the bible not to dance? this is your choice to make, but i am telling you it is not a sin.good luck.

welll i go to a A/G church and our youth group has a dance team and during worship many people dance. Dance is an expression...and a form of worship as long as your doing it for gods glory and to honor him i see nothing wrong wiht it. in fact, our district of a/g has a dance competion in Fine Arts Festival. If your church doesnt allow dancing...what do they think about david...?

What do you think the Lord is saying to you about dance. If you feel it is alright with him then you need to seek another church. There is nothing wrong with dance if your glorifying God in it.
