My Vectra car has a screw-in aerial above the back (tinted) window. The am radio reception is terrible. What can I do to get a clear reception? I live in Newcastle but my favourite station is Sydney 702. I'm also missing Radio National. Even the local ABC radio (1233) is very poor. Thank you.

Unfortunately the previous suggestions to add a booster to the antenna won't work. The AM antenna is internal which doesn't use the external antenna and cannot be accessed. There is usually a trim-pot on a radio where you can adjust for better reception.

most car radios get bad reception on the am band, try radio shack and see if they have an antenna booster that you can put on your radio, it hooks between the antenna and radio.

Make sure your radio chassis ground is intact, and that your antenna lead is not shorting to the frame somewhere.

Install a in-line signal amp or place the antenna higher up, maybe on a mast.
