I want to know what you think a goth is. What does being a goth entail?

We all have dark sides in our lives, who living can say they never have experienced the darkside at one time or another? Most people believe gothics to be satanistic. The "truth" is, as in every culture, there lives a dark breed. These few are often the loudest and most outspoken. Usually it is this few the media draws upon to give us our daily information of what is good and bad in this world. Don't get me started about the media. There are many ideas about the Gothic culture and as it becomes ever more popular (heaven forbid) more ideas will be created. To me the culture reflects a time in history, rebellion, free-thought, creativity, and discovery. As always many writers, artists, creative types and politicians are critiqued in the harshest of ways. The creative thinker simply goes about things differently.

Being goth has nothing to do with what clothes you wear or music you listen to, it is a way of thinking and seeing the world. The clothes that goths wear and the music that goths listen to is just a reflection of that mindset. Goths see that there is extreme pain and evil in the world, along with the good. Instead of condemning it or ignoring it, goths accept these things as a part of life and try and enjoy the good along with the bad, since they can't stop the bad from happening. They are not obsessed with death, they just accept it as an inevitability. They do not try and cause more pain in their (or anybody else's) lives, since there is plenty to start with. Goths tend to be kind, intelligent, non-violent, emotional, and artistic.

with all the differant types of ''goths'' it's hard to tell. i'm sure we are going to hear satanist or something of that nature. but i think a goth is just someone that's a little dark in nature and that's cool. i don't think it's a style. if it was a style every wack job with black clothing and silver would be a goth. a goth would never call her/himself goth i think it's just a way of thinking. but really i'm so sick of all the labels we use.
