when someone asks a question and somebody disagrees, instead of explaining why they disagree, they start handing out insults. Surely, if you want people to take you seriously you should explain yourself properly.

couldnt agree with you more, Isaac Asimov wrote once "violence is the last refuge of the incompetent" personally i think it should have read "Violence and abuse, are the last refuges of the incompetent" most abuse in answers to questions on this site occurs when someone asks a serious question seeking serious answers, as many people do, but sadly some people out there take great delight in trying to show their "superiority" by making some inane remark in order to show the questioner as being somehow inferior to themselves, I call this "Small pond syndrome" and they're trying to be the big fishes in it. Still only my personal opinion, have fun and hope you dont get too many insults and abusive answers.

I agree with you 100%! Really. I am not sure why people do not take time to fully explain their positions, rather than reducing to insults. I simply do not get it either.

I most profusely agree.
You got it right.
Ref retards/a person who is retarded, would not expressly , express an opinion against another person.
Only a moron with self ego would cancel a debate to prove "itself right at any cost".
Good Question u got top Q from me.
This should be explored more(ie bullying).
What a great point to debate.(thankyou 4 bringing it up/Yahoo take Note)

It comes down to education, they do not have the intelligence to explain why they disagree and give a reason for argument.

Unfortunately this is the result of liberal education. Rather than learning how to reason and debate we simply shout the other person down. I find that studying a bit of philosophical logic is the way forwards...

I disagreed with someones taste in music, they tracked me down deliberately to put a comment on my question, i think it's just because they're childish and can't take the critisism. It's a strange one - why would they care enough to do that?

That sounds like a liberal I used to deal with. They must ever force their views down your throats, and never lose an argument, especially before a crowd. So what do you do when you have no points? Throw out insults. It can be a bloody mess.

I hear you there.

because some people don't know why they disagree or maybe they don't get the situation, people who hurl insults are usually a tad stupid so the best is to smile and ignore them

I do try to explain myself properly, and I fear that I have noticed this too. Quite annoying, and just takes up space. Perhaps that is what they want.
