I had the flu and it seemed the only way i could get any rest was to fill up my tub about to my shoulders with warm water. My husband freaked when he saw me and said that i could drown that way. I was always of the impression that it was never a deep sleep and that you would still be aware if your head slipped below the water. is this true?

technically you could. realistically, naw. you'd wake up with the first snarf of water if your mouth or nose slipped under. i used to sleep in the tub all the time when i was sick.

Yep it is! It only takes about 2-3 inches of water for someone to drown! So, filling up your tub that full and falling asleep in it and not paying attention, whether its a deep sleep or not, you could drown.

I imagine that if you've also taken any kind of medication it would be dangerous. Sometimes I find that really warm/hot water can slow down your relexes. Why not give our husband peace of mind and maybe have a timer in the bathroom to wake you up?

Soaking in the tub is one of the best ways to deal with flu too.

properly, you placed possibly try this in the case which you're able to desire to doze off: -Set an alarm. Or make a time shrink for once you're able to desire to get out. Have somebody are available there to get you, in case you have somebody else in the domicile. -circulate around lots, or decrease the quantity of cleansing soap you placed interior the tub as you fill it. -placed some track on that retains you wide awake and based. If all else fails, do no longer use the tub cleansing soap for too long. you recognize your limits on how lots you could put in there beforehand you get groggy and drained. sturdy success, and happy bathing! ^_^

Yes. It doesn't take a lot of water to drown, but it is possible. More than likely, if you are only "half" asleep, you would wake up, but you never know. It's better to take your bath to calm you down, then jump right into a snuggly bed.

I could understand why he'd be worried you probably looked so comfortable he thought your head might slip under. I'm pretty sure you'd be aware of it if it happened but it depends on how deep you were sleeping and how fast your head slipped under. As long as you don't have epilepsy or anything I'm sure it wouldn't be so sudden.

Only if you are not naturally asleep--as in, you are unconcious or under the influence of sleep aids--can you not be woken up to save yourself from drowning.

At least your husband cares. :-)

Your body's natural mechanism would alert you to wake up if in danger of asphyxiation. The only exceptions would be related to unconsciousness such as passed out drunk or from drugs.

no you would wake up if you needed air. its like holding somones nose when theyre asleep. they dont die, they just regain conciousness. you might drown if someone snuck up behind you and whaled the back of your head and knocked you out and then u slipped under the water. but if ur just sleepin ull wake up.
