Does it hurt worse in the morning, or after you've been resting for a while? If so, there's a chance you have plantar fasciitis, which is an inflammation of the tendons in the sole of the foot.

As a quick home diagnostic, try this: Place both hands on the wall with your sore foot extended out behind you far enough that the heel raises off the ground slightly. Then stretch the back of your calf by trying to press your heel down to the floor while leaning forward. If your foot hurts less, you most likely have plantar fasciitis; if it hurts too much to do the stretch, there's something else wrong, and you should see a doctor.

if it IS plantar fasciitis, this stretch is an important therapy you can do on your own. You should also look into getting better shoes -- get some with more arch support but also more heel support, like a good heel cup that holds the sides in place. The last time I had a bout of PF, it was because I'd changed my "daily" shoes; going to a pair more like the previous ones cleared it up in a matter of days.

Its called planter faciatis. The muscle in your calf and the heel need to be stretched. I'm not spelling it right.

Scott F. spelled it right.
