From observations on Y!A and real life, the following seems to be true:

Christians do not get along with Pagans.
Christians do not get along with Atheists.
Atheists get along with Pagans.

Atheists -- who have no belief in any sort of Deity -- get along pretty darn well with people who are abundant in the belief of Deity.

Why is this so?

Hi Loki,
As you no doubt are aware, Christianity is a conversional religion.
As such, Christians seek to convert people to their beliefs.
People who have in their minds a set belief structure, and who are firm on it, are not easy targets for Christians.
Anyone who confesses atheism or follows a Pagans path have often thought long and hard about the direction they wish to take.
Dogma and indoctrination do not sit well with more thinking and analytical people, Christianity is a hard sell for them.
Paganism is generally a non-coversional path. Meaning Pagans aren't out to convert others to Paganism.
IME though many Pagans are anti-Christian, they are only a small percentage. Pagans do not generally seek to convert anyone, but can be quite vocal about their own beliefs.
This sits fairly well with other non-conversional groups. IME Atheism is also non-conversional.
By the Christian definition, any religion that is not their own is Abrahamic Satanism (Devil worship) and is punishable by death.

Paganism is a positive religion based on self discovery, taking responsibility for ones own self and actions, and tolerance of other religions. Why wouldn't we get along?

I have no belief in the Pagan deities, but I do respect those that do. I think it's a wonderful way to live. Being in touch with the earth and the idea of energy and karma (The threefold law).

To answer this questions requires a Leap of Faith;)

Your observations are accurate. I have never seen so many people so wrapped up with Religion and so biased in their opinions.

It is difficult to determine the age of the people who ask questions and reply with answers.

I believe in God..a higher spirit. Often I pray.

However, most of the worlds problems are the result of organized religion. A Male based, totalitarian organization.

With over fifty percent of the worlds population in favor of women, I am at a loss to find a single Female leader of any religion.

Will One Woman please come forward and take control of this world....God only knows that Men have made a mess out of it.

Lets all get along....Respect is the Key.

Personally I don't recognize anything in Paganism that is of a threatening nature to world-wide stability... I can't quite feel comfortable saying the same thing about Christianity.

There is also the obvious overlap of Christianity and Paganism to be trusted, both religions believing in God or Gods, it's an easy leap to understand that 'no God' also means 'no Gods' as well; and so, speaking to only the Christians make communication easier. (Pagans... Please, count yourselves among the Christians in order to satisfy this persons bitterness and jealousy.)

I don't usually choose to speak directly to the Pagans just as I seldom speak directly to the Hindus... I think they can understand easily enough that an Atheist would be unlikely to accept that any of their Gods or fairy people were things of substance or that I believed they possessed any claim on reality and truth.

In addition, the bulk of the people that I encounter are Christians, Jews and Muslims... with as peace loving and as generally meek as most of the smaller religions are, I seldom think of them directly. I suspect that well be hearing more from them more if they gain a following in the future - Wiccans, for example, are going through a very rapid growth but once again they are so non-evangelical and easy to get along with that they frequently fall through the cracks during these discussions.

So... that's about it... Happy now?

When I was an athist, it was because pagans are willing to look into things before discounting it, or will look into it and see it's validity. They also don't start wars over nothing, or try to convert me.

I did the converting myself.

As a pagan, I like atheists because they are generally smarter. They may think I am a bit silly, but they aren't trying to cleanse me of my beliefs. Enlighten me a bit, yes, but it's not, "Accept the theory of X, or DIE."

I'm a christian, and many of the pagans and atheists have voted many of my answers to their questions as the best answers. So, it appears that I, who am a catholic, can get along with those who are not. Of course I try not to be judemental, I am a messenger from God and that's all I am to do. I give the message and you either accept it or not. If you don't that's fine with me, because I am not the one to make you believe, that's the Holy spirits job. And if more Christians would remember that, then maybe other people would start seeing them differently.

Simple. It's because Christians are dumb and the Catholic church is a source of hate and death. Pagans probably (I don't know anything about their religion) except homosexuality a lot more than Christians. That's probably one reason. A lot of my gay friends (I'm one too) come from Catholic families and have become atheist.

Who wants to follow a religion that says you're a sinner because of how you were born? Lol not me.

Well, first off let me somehow apologize for any "bad attitude" christians you may have encountered. Sometimes folks get more caught up in what they are believing and don't get concerned about being friends with people. That kind of thinking goes across the board. There are fanatics and radicals in every facet of religion.

I've worked alot of 3rd shift in my time and have had to work with people of all kinds of belief systems. I don't make it a point to shove anything down anyone's throat, but if the opportunity presents itself to talk about something concerning God or Jesus, then I take it.

I too have worked with Christians who can't seem to get along with anybody. I worked with Catholics, Wiccas, demon worshippers, and hard rock/heavy metal heads. Some of them can't get along with anybody and some of them I consider friends to this day.

I try to live my life according to a couple of scripture verses that stick in my mind as I am answering your question.

John Chap 13. 34-35
34 "I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other as I have loved you. 35 All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other."

I hope that you will find yourself in the midst of Christians who care about you and will show you the love of Jesus.

Jesus Loves You!

I don't recall either myself or anyone else getting any sh!t from Pagans.

notice how many of those sentences begin with "X do not get along with..."

And you never even got to mention Muslims. Or Catholics. (Yeah, I know they're Christians too. They don't.)

Pagans are cool. Some Christians are cool, but they keep a low profile on here, because there's another sentence that begins "X do not like liberal Christians". Loving religion, they say...

Christians and Atheists are about as different as communists and anarchists. Believe in one ruler or believe in none. Pagans(including myself) believe in several different Gods and Goddesses(or spirits) on a more natural level. You can't see Heaven or Hell but you can see nature and its effect on life(if your eyes are open to it). Atheists, if they had to believe in something, would rather believe in something they could see. Also, Pagans don't shove their beliefs down peoples throats.
