christians, when they cannot logically defend christianity, will cop out and say something like "that's why it is called "faith"

you shouldn't have to use magical thinking to believe in something you have never seen.

the word faith shouldn't mean believing in something you can't see.
when you say you have faith in your spouse, you don't mean you trust that they exist. It means you trust that they will never fail you

It is a fallacy to say you need to have faith in god's existence.
If it was a matter of "technically believing" in God's existence, it would be no more that a sick game.
It should be about trusting that god won't fail you in this life.

Hi Helio,

Faith, as it relates to religion, is generally a belief in a higher power.
For some religions this enables the follower to absolve their sins, to others it helps to explain the unexplainable, for others still it is just an energy source and bears no resposibility for events.
Blind faith is more a product of ignorance, it is faith without sufficient evidence. This is where (IMO) religious fanaticism begins.

According to the Websters dictionary, faith has the following meaning:
1) Belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of something or someone.
2) Loyalty or allegiance
3) Belief and trust in God.
4) Religious convictions, a system of religious beliefs.
which leads me to.... Have you ever believed something to be true? Even if in the end, you were deceived? As a child, did you believe in Santa or the tooth fairy? Then you my friend, have had Faith.
Have you ever been Loyal to a friend? Then you, again, had Faith.
When you wake in the morning, do you think, should I get out of bed? what if my legs don't work? Or do you....have faith they will and get up with no doubt?
Faith is all around you in various forms.
Finally, The last one, Faith in God. Faith, the belief that My God is real, just and Holy.
And that is all I need, Faith.

I have been called Christian but it all comes down to one simple word - FAITH - in my beliefs of there being a God the Father & Savior Jesus Christ.
Jesus once told his disciples that their faith had physical roots with him but blessed is the future believers that would not have him present but believed on Faith.
I would that people study some form of religion that makes them feel better and gives some inner peace. Truly this would make the world a better place God Bless and have a fine day.

Faith is believing in something you can not prove.

So to believe in Jesus must be by faith.
To believe in God also has to be by faith.

However, Paul said that nature cries out there is a God.
Have you ever taken a course in anatomy?
Is it possible for all these functions to come together to form a human body without a designer?

Not in a zillion years.

Oh, and it is reproducible as well.
When we have a child it does not look like a duck, it looks like a child, and it has all the anatomical characters of one of the parents.
It has a liver to filter out impurities.
It has lungs to add oxygen into the blood stream.
It has a heart to pump blood and oxygen into the whole body, and it is built with chambers to open and close like locks on a waterway.
There are eyes to see, ears to hear, nose to smell.
How could all that come together in one place without a designer.
And there are thousands of parts I have never mentioned.
How about red and white blood corpuscles.
The body sends white corpuscles and / or fluid to any injury.
It will form a clot around any foreign body inside the body.
Bladders are useful as well, try doing without one.
Then there is DNA that carries your gene data and your parents, and grandparents etc. It is like a serial number stamped by the manufacturer.

omg are you saying there is only one type of person in a large political party and the republicans get to pick which one it is? wow! you're a moron! you see there are many different types of people on all ends of the political spectrum, see there are the fat *** lazy people who want something for nothing because its easier. then there is the over educated that want to give the lazy people whatever they want because they in fact are lazy as well and didn't want to pay for their education. now i know this will be tough for you, but just try and imagine that they're republicans that aren't all like bush too, amazing... see i'm more of a moderate republican, not an extreme republican. just like pelosi and obama aren't exactly the same. now i know you are most likely some moronic communist that wants everybody to be exactly the same so we can all be lovely robot people but that isn't so. we join political parties because they represent most of what we believe in, just like your dumb *** most likely thinks that all republicans are either bumpkins from the south or super rich corporate fat cats. those seem in direct odds with each other too don't they?

The merriam webster online dictionary says faith is:
1 a : allegiance to duty or a person : LOYALTY b (1) : fidelity to one's promises (2) : sincerity of intentions
2 a (1) : belief and trust in and loyalty to God (2) : belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion b (1) : firm belief in something for which there is no proof (2) : complete trust
3 : something that is believed especially with strong conviction; especially : a system of religious beliefs

We are to have faith in God. that He is who He says He is. Not just that there is a god, but that HE is the one and only Creator God, eternal, holy, just, love, merciful, omnicient, omnipotent, omnipresent, etc. Because of Who He is, He will be faithful to us in this life and in the one to come, if we allow Him to. He will not take you to heaven with Him against your will. If you want to go your way instead of His he will allow you, but your way doesn't lead to heaven. He provided a way to heaven. He sent His Son to die on the cross for your sins. Now the road to heaven is available to you. Will you take it, or take your own road? It is up to you, but don't blame Him if you don't end up where you wanted to go.

I believe the facts show beyond a reasonable doubt that there is a God, that the God proclaimed in the Bible is that God, that Jesus was born, died on the cross, buried, and raised again on the 3rd day, appeared to many, and returned to heaven, that He still changes lives. And so, I believe Jesus is God, He paid for my sins, and He has sent the Holy Spirit to live in me, because that is what the Bible says and because i have experienced it myself. He will never leave me nor forsake me. Though i live in a fallen world and can expect hardship and persecution here, He will give me His peace and bring me home to Him forever.

You are right that it is not enough to "technically believe" in God's existence.

You have faith in how you came into existence. It's just faith in another form. Any way you want to look at it, you have no better answers for you claim to your faith than you think I do for mine. EXCEPT, that you don't know about the change that my faith has brought about INTERNALLY in my life. YOU CANNOT SEE THAT. Just like you cannot see my God. But I can see Him in my heart, because since I met Him THROUGH faith, He resides with me always.

you are thinking way too hard about this. i don't need to explain to you why i believe in God so you can call faith a cop-out if you want but people who believe in evolution have Just as much faith because science does not tell us EVERYTHING now does it?

Faith without wisdom is dangerous. The faith Christians talk about is the most dangerous, because they are encouraged to give up and not explore the answers they seek because that might take them further from God. That's pretty much what happened to me, not that I regret it.

Faith can be "a belief" in something you can or can't see! It all depends!

I have faith in God- in whom I've never seen! And I have faith in all the truths that I clearly see within the Bible!
