I find that my pillows will go "flat" after a while and I was wondering how to get them back to their original state when I first bought them.

It really depends on what your pillows are made out of. If they are foam, there isn't much you can do except buy new ones. If however, they are feather pillows there is a solution.

First, wash your pillows on the bulky items cycle. Yes. You heard me correctly: Wash your feather pillows. Don't forget the fabric softener.

Once they have been washed, place them in the dryer with a tennis shoe. A tennis ball works when you have items such as sheets, so that they don't get all twisted together. To plump the feathers back up, you need something heavier. A tennis shoe works great. Remember to put the dryer on the low cycle but make certain that the feathers are dry so as not to get moldy pillows. The best way to ensure that the feathers are dry is by shaking the pillow now and again during the drying cycle. Really shake it up. Don't put the dryer on high, as it may damage the feathers.

It works like a charm and it works great for down comforters too.

Eventually, a pillow is going to do that: The filling gets squashed and it breaks down.

But if you throw it in the dryer and use the fluff cycle (no heat), that should help.

Good luck!
