I know lots of people that are total healthy freaks (in a good way) and they say that grains are only good for you if they've been sprouted or fermented. So the plain bowl of oatmeal I've been eating for years has only been working against me????

not true. the thing that is important is that they are whole grain including all parts. oatmeal is usually whole grain but you can check the ingredients for sure.
