I am interviewing in the morning for a position as a police officer - I don't want to appear to "girly" by wearing my hair down and I know that as an officer I will be wearing my hair in a pony tail - so should I wear it in a pony tail? I also don't want to appear to casual. (by the way - my hair is medium length right past my shoulders)

Pull it back into a low ponytail. It looks clean, and professional. No high pony tails. Good luck!

I agree with the others....I wouldn't not wear it down. Wear it as you would on the job....you certainly could do a bun....or a french braid. I don't know that I would do a pony tail, although I may be too particular on it. If you were in a situation on the road, a pony tail could still get in the way and an easy way for a suspect to get a hold of you....but that is just me.

When I went for orals, I wore my hair in a french braid.

I agree with the french braid if they look ok on you. When I went for my interview in law enforcement, I actually had mine done professionally. I had a french twist? french bun? I dont really remember, but I got the job :).

But I see a lot of female officers that wear french braids if your hair is long enough. Also, i think a low pony tail would be alright too. Good luck with the interview!

The reason you will see both military and paramilitary organizations encouraging or requiring women to wear hair pulled back is that it is best for your own defense, thus that of others. You could also twist the ponytail into a "bun" type thing, but might be too fussy. Remember, in close contact situations, you don't want your perp to have anything to grab onto that's not God-given! Good luck.

You could try a bun at the nape of the neck or a french braid. Both are professional looking, but the braid will hold better in action. Good Luck!

Go to the interview as if you was starting your first day at work.....wear your hair in a low ponytail...not only does it look professional but it will give them an idea of what you will look like in uniform.....good luck

maybe you want to try it like a bun at the back.. then just fix it...or you could pony tail it but it should be in the side..

Put your hair in a bun. That's how we had it in the military w/ uniform. It didn't look too girly yet very professional.

Try to get position by your arguments and not by your hair. If you want to be a good officer your hear will not help your a much. Use a brain instead.
