It's not true that every child needs both a mother and father. There are single parent homes that succeed. While two parents present may be the "ideal", it isn't the only way for families to work.

I am assuming you are trying to make a point, and I hope that it's not that you really want ot make this illegal. I grew up with only a mother, and I turned out fine (or at least I think so). In a lot of situations, the kids would be better off if their parents got divorced. Staying together "for the kids" is NEVER a good idea. Your kids learn by example, the amount of love and affection you show toward your partner is very important. Believe it or not kids can tell when it's real, and when you are just going through the motions. Every child should have a safe, loving home, having both parents is just a bonus.

God only allows divorce because of the coldness of peoples hearts. It hurts him, and it hurts the kids.

Seriously, people need to learn how to sort out their problems. The vows say - "for better or for worse," right?

As much as making divorce illegal might be a good idea, it'll cause problems coz people'll just split up anyway, which could possibly be worse for the kids as it is not "legal" and they may not see one of the parents at all.

Kids do need both their mum and their dad, but it is quite usual for kids who go through divorce that they find a mother/father figure who helps them learn and grow.

Then again if divorce was illegal and so was long-term separation, they might sort their problems out!
hmmmmmmmmmmm...

Stats show that children raised by only one parent has a 400% higher rate of involvement in crime, drugs, teen pregnancy, etc. over 85% of those in prison had no father in the home. In most states, arrest intake forms no longer even have a spot to lest the name of a father, so as not to embarrass those who don't know who their father is.

This does not mean that every child raised fatherless will become a troubled adult, no more than an abused child will become an abuser, but it increases their chances. A parent must decide if it is worth gambling with their child's life over the long haul for what is a relatively short time that you have them with you.

You could not make divorces, or single parenthood illegal, but something needs to be done to keep fathers involved with their children. According to the Federal study, Survey of Absentee Parents, non-custodial fathers are denied access to their children in 60% of the cases, with them losing all contact with the child within five years. I'm currently helping an 18 year old boy find his father. He tried to commit suicide last week.

It should be noted about the above mentioned study is that it was only performed in five states. The intent of the study was to show that fathers don't care to see their children, but when the results of the opposite starting coming in, the rest of the funding for the study was withdrawn.

i don't think they need a father per se, i think a father figure will do just fine. besides, couples get married because they love each other, and sometimes unfortunately they fall out of love. it's a shame that kids have to be caught in the middle sometimes, but making divorce illegal is like making falling out of love illegal....and in the judicial system you can't legalize emotions or morals or anything like that.

I disagree. Sometimes it is in the childs' best interest for the parents to get a divorce. What if the child was subject to sexual abuse by one of the parents? Would you stay together and subject the child to this.

those two things don't add up. Are you going to make it illegal for children to be concieved out of wedlock also? Or what about those who have children without a marriage certificate? what about those children whose parents die.

There is an idea of course, but you can't legislate ideals. Everyone would be put in prison.

Also, what about those divorces that happen because of acute abuse situations, such as sexual abuse and physical abuse toward the children. You just don't make sense.

Ideally every child would have a mother and father. A GOOD mother and father. I grew up with both but would have been much better off without my abusive father.

I disagree. It is more important for a child to have HAPPY, loving, productive parents. One happy mother or father, or two living separately, or two loving parents of the same gender is infinitely better than two married people who are unhappy in their marriage.

well divorce is the absolute or one of the worst things people put on children. I say you have to have a n extremly good reason to divorce. like, adultry or abiuse or something Really bad. other than couples should try to make it. its hard on the kids. I think divorce shouldn't be illegal, you just have to have a good reason. not just, " oh we aren't communicating well" and all that mumbo jumbo.
