that anyone here who says they've given up their christian faith is told they were never a real christian? How can you experts on faith know that what someone felt at the peak of there faith is not what you feel today? No circular reasoning please.

It's a standard answer. If you don't believe it, you didn't understand it. They do it all the time. It's convenient for them, yes. That way they don't have to ask themselves questions for which they don't want to hear the answers.

There was a time I gave up my Christian faith, and I can say that it is possible to be a true Christian and still walk away from it...but that is not my case. I found my way back and what gave me a big relieve that I can never be a perfect Christian. It is not about me and what I do, it is about what Jesus did and what I am going to do with it.

God knows our hearts. We all fall short from the glory of God and lack of faith is part of being a Christian. God has promised that if we seek Him with whole heart we find Him. And when we find Him it is not easy to walk away from that.

I am one who used to feel very strongly about 'my christian faith'.
In the last decade or so, I have come across so many inconsistencies in the christian religion that I no longer subscribe to it.
It needs a major overhaul if it is to last.
I was almost ready to completely give up on Christianity in general but recently have come across a book that enables me to think in terms of 'overhaul' rather than 'give up totally'.
This book is "The Sins of Scripture" by John Shelby Spong, ex-Episcopal bishop of Newark.
It it are exposed the passages of the Bible as well as the Bible itself in its role as the 'inspired word of God'.
Anyone who WANTS to be a Christian should read this book as it contains the truth about scripture that 'experts' learn in seminary but don't teach from the pulpit.
Anyone who doesn't want to be a Christian should also know more about this religion that is based on some serious errors yet was founded on a solid philosophy of LOVE.
I have given up my faith in the Christian church along with many of its teachings, as many are based on either ignorance or outright lies.
I have NOT given up my faith in the 'original principles of love and empowerment'.

It is easier for a christian to say that they were never one to start with than try to back up their answers with the Bible.

There is the parrable of the son who wanted all of his inheritance and left his father, then after he was broke and nowhere else to go came back home and his father accepted him.
I believe this is the same with some christians that fall away from God when they get to far away they will see that they really need God and will come back to Him. God will accept them back!

Some people I believe just get caught up in the world and satan trying to pull them away from God that they just get confused. That if they are a real christian they will come back to God.
God never moves He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow!

what? i never had anybody tell me i was never a real christian. it was being a real christian that allowed me to see the true contradictions. and to this day, i still find contradictions that come from being a real christian and not just knowing the bare minimum of the christian religion.

By knowing what the Bible says, and there is the parable of the sower for one- that explains false conversion and MANY fit into that catergory to a tee. There is a reason for everything isn't there? Well there you go~Doesn't mean they will never be saved- God willing they will!

Jesus's death and resurrection meant that people can now personally know God. If you ever personally know God, you can never deny His existence.

Analogy: If you ever meet George Bush (whether you like him or not) in person, then you cannot deny that George Bush exists.

You have a point. But that is a way for Christians to point the finger at the person and blame them for their disbelief. It saves them from admitting that their religion isn't loved by everyone who tries to love and follow it.
