I am a Christian and see what the overwhelming majority of them do as despicable and one of the worst forms of sin. Not only are they robbing people (mostly those who have the least to give) in the name of God, they are also giving Christians everywhere a bad reputation.
The only TV-type evangelist I've heard that I fully trust is Billy Graham. But, you never saw him on TV begging for money. He preached God's word, plain and simple.

I have often wondered too! Some of them appear to be promoting themselves rather than the Lord. I look at the big expensive buildings which they call Churches and wonder why all that money could not have been spent on outreach. If indeed these people are born again themselves, when the rapture occurs, and everyone is taken all the earthly wealth will be left behind for the Anti-Christ. The Catholic Church would be the greatest example of a "religion" who amasses great wealth and just look at what its end will be as stated in Revelations Ch.17 V1-9 I'm sure the Lord greatly disapproves

While I do agree with many of the comments already posted here, I think it would be unfair to generalize and say that all TV pastors are taking in millions in salary and living in fortress mansions. Some have been know to do so, certainly, but there are exceptions to the rule. Someone pointed out Billy Graham, who has been know to live on a modest salary. I also think highly of the Osteens (although some of you might not, but that's OK). Joel's father started Lakewood out of a Houston feed store in the 1950s with maybe a dozen people in the congregation. A very modest beginning with no TBN, CBN, or Daystar back then.

Unfortunately many of the preachers on TV are part of what is known as the Word of Faith movement. Loosely speaking this is people who follow the teachings of Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Hagin, Paul Crouch, Benny Hinn, Joel Osteen, Fred Price, etc. This movement is heretical in my opinion and by most Christians. However, the fact the preach this has made them rich and those with money get on TV. TBN is owned and run by these people.
Many of them have been exposed as frauds and still people follow them. If you ask me, they are false prophets and shouldnt be taken seriously at all.
My opinion is this strain of Pentecostalism (or Charismata) makes a mockery of Christ and I wish more prominent Christians had the cojones to speak out against it publicly.
These insidious teachings have made there way into most Charismatic Churches (though I am a Charismatic, I abhor these teachings). They also have taken a foothold in the poorest places in Africa. Think about this, if you read what Jesus taught, would you think he would want the rich to take from the poor in his name.
I think there is a special place in hell for people like Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland and the others.

Yah I rarely watch that channel, only when way of the master comes on which is the best show on TBN. That is the only show I trust. But there are so many false preachers on there, who yes are greedy- and have faith in money more than God....it's sad and it makes me ache for all of those who are falling for it...I hope and pray the Lord opens their eyes to His truth and shows them that what these preachers are saying and doing does not line up with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

ABSOLUTELY NOT.
In 1994, Pat Robertson (perhaps the most famous televangelist) used his "Operation Blessing" planes to airlift diamond mining equipment to mines in Zaire, funded by donations to the 700 Club that had been earmarked for the Rwandan Civil War relief effort. Despite a Virginia state investigation that concluded Robertson had been misleading his viewers and diverting relief aid to conflict diamond mines, Virginia attorney general Mark Earley blocked any potential prosecution of the church leader.
In 1999, Pat Robertson again allied himself with an African strongman as his company Freedom Gold Ltd. signed a mineral development agreement with Liberian President Charles Taylor to mine for gold in the war-torn country. Charles Taylor is now awaiting trial in the Hague for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
These televangelists are horrible people who take advantage of millions of Americans for their own profit and greed. It's absolutely insane when you think about it.

Go to a real church and be careful with the TV pastors.. Here on the mission field it is very different and I don't know of any missionaries that live like the TV guys do. They will have to answer to God for how they live.

Do TV evangelists do more than lay ppl?
I think if God was going to talk to me thru a TV evangelist, it would be on a major network, not some rinky cable station.

all religions were written (or whatever you think) by some influential persons, who are dead long ago or in heaven/hell (what a joke)
In those days since most people were illiterates ( lack of knowledge of science and things like that), so rumours about wonder cures, miracles spread easily faster than the disease itself.
people (those days) were mainly simple (dependent on agriculture, animals etc, etc) so could be easily manupulated by influential persons( something like our present day politicians/leaders or gods)
they tought them how to live, and these people easily became their
soft preys, spreading their messages (guidebooks or whatever) for free. they became big brands (like coke)
or we all are psychologically weak , that we need a deadman's "how to guides" to live our lives. (there are lot of free self-help articles, stories out there)don't we know how to use our brains?(or trash your brains) please don't tell me rain, forest theories.why are we advertising fr free
