They're a top brand and they make great stuff across the board - from simple point & shoots to professional digital SLR cameras. If you have a specific model in mind, you can check these sites for an in-depth review:

I have a Canon SD400 and it is great! I definately have to say that Canon is the top camera maker. The products have plenty of features with a pretty competitive price. Sony is also very good, but I would prefer a Canon over a Sony.

As an accountant and a Nikon shooter I can tell you they make excellent calculators. Seriously they are excellent. My wife has a Canon point-and-shoot that sometimes makes me wonder why I have a SLR and a bag full of lenses. You will be a happy camper come Christmas day.

I am a sworn Nikon SLR user, however I can tell you that as long as you take the time to learn how to use your Canon, you will get some excellent photos from it.
You will notice from previous answers that although we all use different brands, nobody has rubbished Canon.
Enjoy it!

Canon is generally excellent across the entire line. They have one or two that do not have an optical viewfinder and I'd rather see you avoid them, but otherwise, every model is a great choice. See OMG's answer for links to several reviews.

I've had a Fuji, a Nikon, and now I have the Canon Rebel. I love it. I seem to be able to take a better picture with my canon.

a cannon is ok if your enemies are at least 100m away, but not every effective closer or farther than say 2500m. LOL
