I had this same problem. I have a lot of really thick, wavy hair and recently it felt like it was limp and lanky... it kind of felt like I lost a lot of hair or something. Anyway, I figured it might have been build-up from using so many hair products, so I used a clarifying shampoo (mine was Pantene's "Pure" shampoo) and that helped a lot.

I have the same problem, you need to do a number of things. First, use different shampoos and conditioners everyday. Just use the same one every other day. Second, get some kind of volumizing gel. I use Garnier Fructis Style, XXL Root Booster and when I need to switch up I use Suave Volumizing Gel. Then blow dry upside down. It's kinda hard to style your hair this way so I use a straightener on the tips of my hair. Also, Suave Professionals has this thickening shampoo and conditioner that seems to work pretty good.

Take a look at what you're eating instead of focusing on doing things to your hair. Are you on a diet? Are you missing any nutrients? Think about what's changed since your hair was thick and try to fix that.

Sounds like you changed to a poor shampoo, or other hair product? Try Neutrogena to get the gunk out for a few days, and start over.

blow dry your hair unsidem down , it gives it lots of volume
buy a volumizing shampoo, like sunsilk's anti-flat
and try not to straighten your hair! it makes it alot flatter

when your hair is damp spray and comb a volumising spray through it. you can get these in most haircare brands. then turn your head over and blowdry with your hair upside down. if you did want to style it with the blowdryier, still blowdry upside down till about 80% dry and then turn back over and style as usual! voila!

put a squirt of mousse in ur hand and take a wide tooth comb and run it thru the mousse. then take the comb and kinda hold ur hair up and toussle the roots a littleto give it volume. works for me every morning and i straighten my hair every morning and do that.

I've been using Hairapy in the yellow bottle. It helps a little.
