When Noah loaded up the Ark, did he just take examples of animals from the region he inhabited at the time, or was there supposed to be a male and female of every species from all corners of the earth

AJ - regardless of whether it's a story or not, what is the story - all the animals or just those relative to the region?

Actually, due to Mendels laws, Genetic Geographic Isolationism, and other scientific laws regarding genetics, Noah didn't have to bring on every animal onto the ark.

Look at the Canine Family.

He could have brought a pair of wolves, a pair of hyenas, and a pair of domesticated dogs, and within eons of time since the flood, you could easily have the variety you see today. There was no reason to bring in every single solitary type of animal. Goodness, breeders come up with new breeds of dogs in mere decades.

The Bible doesn't specify how it was done, exactly what type from what kinds of animals were preserved, and which weren't, but it's obvious that it wasn't neccessary to bring on EVERY type of animal, when you consider the genetic problem scientifically.

It is just a creation myth that is not meant to be taken literally, but the story goes that he took all of the animals in the world, male and female, onto a small boat.

Now, if you ask me, I don't think its easy getting 4 billion plus animals onto a relatively small and structurely unstable 300 foot wooden boat with enough food to last for years without the animals turning on each other, but none of it makes sense so why should this be any different?

Noah was obedient to God. He did exactly what God told Him to do.
Since the whole world was not populated at that time I guess Noah took the animals that were there in that part of the world into the Ark.

First, it is necessary to note that Noah was not told to gather the animals. He was commanded only to build the Ark, large enough for all the animals, and simply receive the animals when they arrived. "And of every living thing of all flesh, . . . two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive" (Genesis 6:19-20).

The Flood story, however, is not merely natural, it involves the supernatural. The Creator was moving to preserve His creation. Might it not be appropriate to propose that, as the Flood was nearing, He instilled in a chosen pair of each "kind" a sense of impending doom and a desire to migrate to Noah and his Ark for preservation? All other representatives of their kind perished in the Flood, and all living representatives descended from the chosen pairs, inheriting the premonition and migration instincts.

I have a theory about this. The gods (Hebrew: Elohim), had a garden (Eden). So they also may have had a zoo, containing a breeding pair of every species of animal then on earth. Makes sense to me.
