I've tried bacatracin and iodine for the first 2 days. the bacitracin seemed to make the ink run, but the iodine made my whole arm throb! now i'm just using lubriderm lotion. What are some other recommendations for my next one?

A little bit of A&D ointment, not enough to make it glossy, for the first couple of days, then Lubriderm is a good choice after that...Iodine? Ouch!

edit: Do not use aloe or Neosporin! Aloe is not good for tattoos...

A+D for the first 3 days, 3 times a day, small pea size. Put all over tattoo, thin layer, wait five minutes and then put paper towel to soak up any extra. (Don't over do it. Just lay the paper towel over it, and lightly press ONCE) 4th day and beyond, Aveeno plain lotion. Best thing ever. I've heard to many thing about jergens.

Try some triple antibiotic ointment, keep it covered for a day or so then use fragrance-free lubriderm.

Be real generous with the ointment, too. Heals faster and smoother.

only use Bepanthen. it is the best from my experience. soothes and heals, while keeping the germs out. it is used extensively on babys so it is great for sensitive areas, like tattoo'd skin.

to DillyDallyLama who thinks its done for cool, why do you act tough online? see, it isnt the tattoo that makes the idiot, but the idiot themselves, and for you the lack of ink is proof enough that you can be an idiot without skin art. and your post sounds like a bad day in "50 Cent's" recording studio. lol

My artist told me NOT to use Neosporin - makes the ink run - and to use A&D diaper ointment.

If you've got any women around that shop from AVON, their moisture therapy lotion is AMAZING for putting on fresh tattoos.

My tattoo artist even asked me what I used that kept it looking so nice!!

all the tattoo shops ive been to (8) always used a&d ointment, even the ones i got done out side of tattoo shops they told me to use a&d, dont use anything else, bacatracin is an anti-biotic, and you dont use anti-biotics on tattoos, it draws the ink out.
have fun with your new tattoo
