To the first response on here..the kid is 12 years old and excited about his first deer. Why did you feel it necessary to put him down for your own beliefs? You said that you were a veteran, which we all appreciate and respect, to protect our country and our rights, including the right to bear arms. Since we have the right to bear arms, we also have the right to hunt within regulations of our respective state. Some of my best memories growing up was hunting whitetail deer in western pa with my grandfather. It isnt all about getting the kill. Its the memories that you have, whether you are by yourself or with a friend or family member. Some of my fondest memories hunting, were when I didnt even get a deer. Its not all about going out and killing everything you see.

Congratulations on your first buck. Hopefully it is not your last. Most importantly, remember the times in the outdoors and cherish them. It is a wonderful place to spend your time.

Congrats on the first deer and a buck non the less.

Youth hunts a great thing. Youth are what will keep this great sport going. im guessing that you are hooked now and will be hunting your whole life now.

Im sorry that the first person to reply to this was kind of a smarta** moron. dont listen to the antis if it wasnt for hunters there would be no wildlife left. and nobody would be able to view these beautiful creatures. Mother Nature is a cold hearted old hag. who would violently kill off all the animals in a non humane way rather than a hunter making a clean human killing.

Congrats again and stickwith it.

I'm Sorry that you had some ball baby answer your question. Hunting is an important part of wildlife conservation. I'm an old Hunter but all of my children 2 boys and 1 girl have all had that first hunting experience just like you. I was twelve too when i downed my first buck.
I think learning at an early age is important. It gives you a feeling of pride and inner faith that you cant find in other activities. It teaches you how important it is to control emotions and how powerful you are.
You know now that you can survive anything and that the taking of a life for food is not beyond your capabilities.
If you were my child I would be extremely proud of you. Not just because you downed the deer. Because you went out and tested yourself and showed yourself that you can succeed.
I am proud of you. You've reached a point on personal growth that few kids get a chance to reach.

Congrats on your 1st successful deer hunt. My son is 10 and bagged his first deer as well. It like yours was a 5 pointer. I think youth hunts are great. Not as much hunting pressure on the deer and kids get to enjoy the great outdoors instead of watching TV that day or days depending on your hunt. If the deer did'nt know you were there then your doing things right. When your in woods you are in his territory not yours so the deer still has the advantage as its his neiborhood and he may not be able to see you but if the winds wrong he can smell real easy.

A kid I know, who is 14, shot a ten point on the second day of season. Last year was his first year, and he shot a four point. I think it's great that kids are hunting, because that means it's not going to be a thing of the past.

As I was reading your question I could just see all the negative opinions replying. Oh the horror of it all, it's soooo bad, killing Bambie. I guess people like to see more deer related vehicle accidents before the holidays and more family's ruined so that they can sleep better at night know Bambie is safe from human hunters that has taken over the role of once free roaming wolves. And who ever thinks that hunting is easy should shut up b/c you just don't have one darn clue. Tree hugging hippies.Deer can wind you over a mile away before you even know their there.

Great for you! I'm proud of you too!

As you can see, there are a lot of ignorant people in the world who have the misguided perception that killing a deer is akin to killing a person. As you and I know, it is not!

Some of my most treasured memories of my boyhood are going out hunting with my Grandad, my Father and my uncles and brothers. Those are times that I treasure more and more as I get older and my loved ones pass.

I can tell you that young hunters learn patience, planning and preparation at a level of maturity well beyond their friends that don't hunt.

You should be proud of your acomplishment. Please take a moment to tell whoever took you hunting "thanks" and how much their time meant to you.

Congratulations, I didn't get my first until I was almost 17, and that was just a little spike horn. Don't let the tree-hugging critics get you down, hunting is a great sport and a benefit to conservation efforts, it's great to see young people getting involved
